Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Schweppes Mixsch... Confirmed sighting: Schweppes Mixsch...
Posted: 16:34 Thu 18-Nov-2004. Price: 19p/ 200ml bottle. Location: Hyper Value, Weston Super-Mare/ Bargain Madness, Southport. Sub-flavours: Cranberry/ spice flavour, Capsicum Lemon, Calamansi Orange. Nutritional unusualness: Cranberry version also contains blackcurrant and raspberry juices.
"Stuart Campbell" reports: Seemingly a product limited to seaside-resort bargain shops, this seems to be a range of mixers rather than soft drinks, judging by the non-screw bottlecap, yet comes in 200ml bottles rather than the normal Schweppes mixer bottles (orange juice, pineapple juice etc) of 125ml. Maybe it's intended for sophisticated long cocktails, but it's hard to see anyone going into a bar and asking for a "vodka and Mixsch Capsicum Lemon". Unless they were already [inebriated] and it just sounded like that, of course. Anyway, these are all lightly sparkling, very slightly bitter drinks with a hint of spice in them. Clearly aimed at an adult market, the taste is subtle verging on watery, but that does make them easy to swig and refreshing in that "dry" sort of way. The lemon one is far and away the most unusual, with a distinct taste of leaves. At the price, you could do worse than to get some in for the next time your mates turn up at your place with bottles of vodka and no Irn Bru.

...Another coastal conundrum from Snackspot's very own "beverage beachcomber" here - and hopefully I'll stop talking like Richard Whiteley long enough to mention that "JD" has already paid US$1.99 for a 2-litre bottle of Pepsi Holiday Spice at "Safeway, Sobey's", confirming: While I know it will be springing up over the next two weeks in North America, the turkey has landed in Canada. Imagine a cross between cinnamon hearts, Dr. Pepper and cough medicine. The local newspaper even printed a recipe (for a glaze) using this toxic waste but recommended not drinking it (hey, even they admitted they couldn't stomach it). One wonders what could be next?

Comment: There are mysterious signs for a mixer called "23" or something near Clapham Common tube station. I have vague recollections of seeing these somewhere last Christmas. I'm not one to ignore the possibility of mixing an unusual alcoholic drink and haven't seen it on sale anywhere. Odd.

Comment: Mixsch has been going for ages in the On-Trade. It was spectacularly unsuccessful, and the price at which you found it is probably because of large drinks companies like mine disposing of their stocks in any way they could for massive losses. I believe I am correct in saying this has already gone full circle and Coke have delisted this. Might be an idea to check the BBD on the product you bought :)

Comment: Oh, I sense a repeat of the 'When will we get Pepsi Blue' saga with Holiday Spice 77709 2
