Click pic to view comments - International sighting: Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper International sighting: Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper
Posted: 12:13 Thu 25-Nov-2004. Price: $0.99 20 FL OZ. Location: Newton Junction, Mississippi. Sub-flavours: non-diet. Nutritional unusualness: Carbonated water and less than 2% of other ingredients.
"Diarmuid Mallon" reports: Still no luck finding Pepsi Blue (do they even still make it?), but this sort of made up for it. It looks to be part of a wider campaign as the bottle is labelled "Soda fountain classics". This is just what it says... a mix of regular Dr Pepper with cherry top notes and the smoothness of vanilla. Should be great, but in the end it is just a mess of flavours. The radio ad appears to suggest drinking this gives you a bad English accent - which is rather odd!

...No kidding "Diarmuid" - especially for those of us lucky enough to have bad English accents in the first place - and great to see you've reverted to your previous jetsetting ways. Meanwhile "Ray" provided a link to a pic of the "full-fat" version on the official Dr Pepper/ Seven Up Inc website, adding "Better then Coke or Pepsi Vanilla this sweet drink is selling like hotcakes" (though didn't we have a discussion some time ago about how Dr Pepper is basically supposed to be "cherry" flavour anyway?) Still, in other tinned ingenuity: those Hot Shot canned drinks have added tomato and chicken flavoured soups to their range in time for the winter (both 99p), ditching both the canned tea and that awful website they used to have; however, soups seem unlikely to be among the drinks to be sold in cans in pubs in order to help reduce bottle-related violence, all part of industry body The Can Makers' ongoing claim that Consumers Prefer Cans.

Comment: I've just heard another ad for this drink. This time if you are flying and your baby is crying - well this drink will enable your baby to sing opera. What else would it do?

Comment: This drink sounds like it'd taste like those awful Freekee Soda things. Fizzy sweet drinks and dairy produce should never be combined.

Comment: Hope Cybercandy start selling this soon - it sounds lovely.

Comment: Kim, I'm guessing that it's a bit like Vanilla Coke, which doesn't use any dairy produce in it.

Comment: Hmm. While it's okay to have fizzy pop in a can, alcohol should come in glass bottles. That's just the way it is. And anyway, I would *prefer* to have glass bottles for coke too. Everyone knows that's better, there simply isn't the availability. That "consumers prefer cans" thing doesn't make a very good case for itself.
