Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Fanta Spider Choc Orange Ice Cream Flavour International sighting: Fanta Spider Choc Orange Ice Cream Flavour
Posted: 19:14 Sun 05-Dec-2004. Price: $2.00/ 1.25 litre. Location: Franklins, Sydney, Australia. Nutritional unusualness: Contains Vegetable Gum (466).
"Mark" reports: Be afraid, be very afraid. I should have known when I noticed the distinct "cloudiness" of this new Fanta variant, but I guess my damned stupid curiosity got in the way again. Steer well clear of this, readers. True, it does smell and taste of choc-orange but it also looks, and quite horribly and frighteningly tastes, like someone has dumped a cup of full cream dairy milk in the bottle. Or maybe it's just that my brain can't compute fizzy/ milky/ choc-orange tastes! The lingering palate is also truly revolting. Needless to say my kids loved it. (Hopefully you all know that a "spider", at least in Australia, is a fizzy drink - usually coke or lemonade with a scoop of ice-cream in it. Hence the name of this product.)

...Hey, thanks for clearing that up, "Mark" - especially in the light of previous Snackspot estimates that "no more than 80%" of the native Australian wildlife is in some way poisonous. And I did find a "chocolate orange" Panda Pop once (a few years ago) which wasn't in quite the same league - still, in other beverage bulletins: I'm finding it hard to get too excited about the Blackberry and Apple Seasonal Fruits New Covent Garden bottled juice, or indeed the Winter Fruits and Festive Spices limited edition from the super-annoying makers of Innocent Smoothies, though this week's The Grocer magazine reports that "dairy giant" Arla have at last worked out a lactose-sugar-filtering method of producing what may be the UK's first ever Atkins-friendly low-carb milk.
