Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Gummy Zone Gummi Pizza Confirmed sighting: Gummy Zone Gummi Pizza
Posted: 17:43 Tue 07-Dec-2004. Price: 20p/ 25.5g pack of "6 slices". Location: Woolworths, Pontefract. Nutritional unusualness: Contains "agar-agar".
"Phillerena (I thought it was time for a better nickname)" reports: I saw this in Woolies recently, and bought it in the name of novelty only. It looks cute - a little "Gummy pizza" in individual little slices, with some coloured blobs on top that represent the "meat and veg" found on normal pizzas. The pizza tastes like normal gum-type confectionery, no variation in taste, just the original "gummy" flavour. I wouldn't buy it again, as it doesn't have the taste to live up to its novelty. It is cheap though, so at least the price fits the product, in this case.

...Ah, another of those sightings that perhaps I should have run a few months ago, if only because it marked the Dr Who-style "regeneration" (into "Phillerena") of the Snackspotter formerly known as "Phil C" (yes, "The moment has been prepared for" etc, etc). My excuse: I was a bit confused by the above claim that this "tastes like normal gum-type confectionery", though now I realise it's (obviously) much more like Gummi Bears. And in other "I can't believe they're not vegetables" updates: The Grocer predicts that Sainsbury's will be rolling out its Kumato black tomatoes to "100 stores" next week (1.89 for 350g), though I for one still haven't seen any sign of the orange cauliflower which the very same magazine seemed just as excited about in January of this year.

Comment: Talking about coloured vegetables, can anyone recall about 2 years ago when they brought out carrots in yellow, white, and purple varieties. There were some yellow carrots hanging around in my local Sainsbury's for ages as no-one seemed to want to buy them. And i've never seen an orange cauliflower, but purple cauliflowers are a fairly common sight at fruit & veg shops in the summer months in this part of the world. [Devon / Cornwall]. Tesco's across the country stock the humble purple spring onion these days incidentally.

As for gummi pizzas, i'm still waiting for them to invent a gummi shepherd's pie, or a gummi cornish pasty.

Comment: Wow isn't it amazing how the past comes back to haunt you. They're doing bags of those gummi things in Home Bargains now, including gummi burgers and gummi french fries. So perhaps gummi baked beans will be next...

Comment: I think these things are really delicious, they are a bit of the same taste, like biting in a gummi bear piece of emotion running through your body and as you keep biting it will go in one climax and you will just want more and more. don't eat them they will haunt you
