Posted: 22:00 Tue 14-Dec-2004. Price: 39p for 8 sticks. Location: Home Bargains, Pontefract. Nutritional unusualness: Caramelized cocoa bean pieces.
"Phillerena" reports: Found this in Home Bargains and it looks like it comes from somewhere in Europe. It is a box containing 8 sticks of dark chocolate with "caramelized cocoa bean pieces" in it. They are individually wrapped. I got a shock when I bit into one because I hadn't realised they would have such a high cocoa content! Reading the ingredients it says it contains cocoa solids of 70% minimum, so it's no wonder. I didn't think Nestle had it in them! It tastes very Lindt-ish and I didn't really enjoy it because I'm not a big fan of bitter tasting chocolate. The cocoa bean pieces add to the bitter taste but I imagine it would be appreciated by dark chocolate lovers.

..."Phillerena's" Home Bargains bonanza continues with this oddity, which sounds to me like a cross between Nestle's own Matchmakers and Double Chocolate with roasted nibs, plus just a hint of Japanese Pocky? Anyway, in other chocolate curiosities: I saw Chocolate Cherry flavour filled Cadbury Mini Rolls in our local Tesco, they were only for sale with the jam and cream filled type in a triple pack though, noted "AC" of Scotland, while I myself observed my local Woolworths (Swiss Cottage, London NW3) selling off some quite substantial overstocks of the Cadbury Crunchie Advent Calendar for just 49p earlier today, implying that perhaps there isn't quite as much excitement as someone anticipated to opening 24 near-identical doors, each of which reveals - a Cadbury's Heroes-sized mini Crunchie!

Comment: From IRL

Unilever is maintaining its taste for limited edition ice-creams with the launch of Magnum’s 5 Senses in January. The UK’s best-selling ice-cream has developed five ‘indulgent ice-cream experiences’ : Touch, hazelnut ice-cream with hazelnut inclusions; Aroma, vanilla ice-cream chocolate and coffee bean inclusions; Sound, coconut ice-cream, chocolate swirl, cracking dark chocolate with caramelized sugar inclusions; taste, vanilla ice-cream chocolate coating and caramel ice-cream core and Vision, strawberry ice-cream strawberry swirl in white chocolate. They all retail at £1.10.

Yet still no 60's ones

Comment: Speaking of Matchmakers has anyone tried the Matchmakers McFlurry? I had one last night and it tastes horrible. Chocolate always seems to lose its taste when mixed with cold ice cream.

Comment: Thats cos chocolate melts at body temperature, which is why its so nice. The ice cream makes your mouth too cold to melt the chocolate, so it tastes of nothing.

Thats enough science for one day.

Comment: Probably why I preferred the Rolo and Toffee Crisp McFlurry's then. They had toffee in them which tastes great with ice cream.
