Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Pringles Taste The World Smokin' Bacon Flavour Confirmed sighting: Pringles Taste The World Smokin' Bacon Flavour
Posted: 17:20 Wed 15-Dec-2004. Price: 89p/ 200g. Location: Iceland, Bath. Nutritional unusualness: Suitable for vegetarians *and* vegans.
"Stuart Campbell" reports: Bacon Pringles have been around in Bath for several weeks now, but in the absence of anyone else spotting them here they are, at a time when Walkers have decided to try to grab themselves a slice of the lucrative "uniform crisps in tubes" market. Everyone knows Pringles - which seem to have been caught in a 1984-style perpetual price war, with all the major chains taking the roles of Oceania, Eastasia and Eurasia, ensuring that consumers never have to pay RRP for Pringles anywhere except petrol stations and 24-hour convenience stores - so there's not much to say about the bacon variety except that they're really good, with a mouthwatering flavour that takes them straight to the top of the "bacon crisps" ladder in this spotter's opinion.

...And may I further refer you to his comments in the Stax thread for "Stuart's" hotly-awaited opinions on the Walkers contender. I too was completely astounded by the accurate (yet vegan-friendly!) bacon flavour of these, making them one of the few Pringles flavours I could readily enjoy first thing in the morning, and raising the question: can an All-Day Breakfast flavour Pringle be very far behind?

Comment: These do sound like a decidedly delicious addition to the world of snackery. The name of the flavour hardly seems appropriate though. "Smokin'" Bacon? As a child I was hugely fond of Monster Munch Sizzlin' Bacon flavour. That's understandable, bacon being cooked, does indeed sizzle.

However popular smoked bacon is; the "smokin'" quality of the meat stuff is not widely recognised.

It reminds me of that Alan Patridge episode where he alienates the farming community by making accusations like, "You make pigs smoke".

Comment: As much as I like them, this Taste The World business seems to have stopped after one new flavour (Barbecue was just rebranded), much like the World Tour.

Comment: Gimme gimme!

Well, actually I bought a can of smokin' bacon -flavour- (important! must be a 'truth in advertising' campagne?) yesterday in an import store and will munch it away in the New Year.

Yet I'm missing the other 2 flavours in this series :-(

Comment: Ohh these are good, so good it reminds me of glory days of Walkers Crisps bacon flavour in the '70s (before they changed owner/reformulated the flavours).
