Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Cadbury Fruit And Nut Flapjack Confirmed sighting: Cadbury Fruit And Nut Flapjack
Posted: 23:56 Thu 16-Dec-2004. Price: 75p. Location: Tesco, Bromley By Bow, London. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
Snackspot reports: Not a huge amount to say about this to be honest, as it's very similar to rival flapjack products, but with raisins and a mildly unpleasant almondy tang. Nonetheless I deem it slightly more noteworthy than the McV HobNobs Flapjacks 5-pack that "Diarmuid Mallon" seems to have taken all the way to a French Apple Expo merely to note: The plain Flapjacks were extremely moist and buttery, but once again (for me at least) the HobNob variant was very disappointing, being a little over dry. However, the "box" was at least 20% empty, and then each individually wrapped bar was again at least 20% empty. So despite a large looking 5 pack, each bar was on the "wee" size. So rather than warning about nuts, the pack should read "contents may settle during transit"!

...And rounding off today's biscuit bonanza, "holyhoses" summed up the (slightly ancient now) McVitie's Ginger and Lemon Digestives with the words: A slightly dryer than usual digestive with a hint of lemon flavour. You think you can't taste any ginger until you get a piece of crystalised ginger between your teeth - apparently unaware of the news that they'll next be adding a Chocolate and Orange variant to the range.

Comment: Discovered these in the SU shop on York Uni campus yesterday. They were on a custom made stand with other Cadbury's products, evidently intended as a coherent attack on McVitie's recent expansions in this direction.

The other items on display were the previously spotted Dairy Milk Brownie and the as-yet-unspotted Dairy Milk Flapjack, Dairy Milk Muffin and Dairy Milk Caramel Muffin. The muffins looked terrifying - small moons draped in thick chocolate.

I bought the fruit-and-nut number, and enjoyed it greatly. I'm quite sensitive to almonds, but this tasted great to me.

Comment: There are large stocks of these Csdbury products being sold cheap at Leeds market. They include Cadbury Irrestibles, not to mention a tub of some sort of cake bites covered in Cadbury chocolate. The caramel and nut Irrestibles are delicious but the plain caramel one is too sickly. Oh and there's some sort of cupcake things topped with Cadbury chocolate icing.

Comment: I've just seen the Fruit & Nut Flapjack and "Dairy Milk" Flapjack (actually just "Chocolate Flapjack") in a London Sainsburys with "NEW" on the packaging. Were those earlier sightings from a limited trial?
