Click pic to view comments - International sighting: Nestle Kit Kat Green Tea Flavour International sighting: Nestle Kit Kat Green Tea Flavour
Posted: 18:49 Mon 20-Dec-2004. Price: Y120 (2 x 2-bar). Location: Odaiba, Tokyo, Japan. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"James Sharp" reports: Two two-bar packs in a neat box, just like the melon, strawberry, white, regular and other Japanese flavours. Doesn't taste overpoweringly of green tea, and it has a similar acrid green colour to the lime variants in England, and that similar artificial smell to go with it. They taste fairly nice, though.

...And it wouldn't be Christmas without our regular round-up of Kit Kats from around the world, with "James" also paying Y100 (about 50p) for some Kit Kat Petit in the same location (in his own words: 8 foil wrapped half-pieces of Kit Kat in a handy card-backed pack. Essentially a different presentation of the parts of a regular 4-bar Kit-Kat. Quite fun to eat, I suppose, and you feel much more guilty eating all 8 pieces than you do eating a 4-bar), and enclosing a bonus pic of Green Tea Flavour Haagen Dazs into the bargain. But the last word goes to what must surely be our old friend "Thomas", who paid 1,80 Euro for a 5-pack of Kit Kat Noisette in "Metro Germany", which he announces: Is new Kitkat for German Market. Finest Milk-chocolate with Haselnussgeschmack (Hazelnut flavour), and provides extensive nutritional information in the form of Brennwert (Energy): 962kJ, Eiwei (Protein): 3,2g, Kohlenhydrate (Carbohydrate): 27,6g, Fett (Fat): 12,0g (all for 45gramm bar).

Comment: They'd better be nice -- I've just paid around £20 to mail order some from Japan as a Christmas present for the missus.

Incidentally, I still haven't managed to find any Christmas Pud flavour KKs -- can anyone recommend a stockist in central London?

Comment: Most Asda stores sell them.

Comment: And Iceland / Littlewoods food halls. I should imagine they will also turn up in discount stores everywhere very soon now. They're already 3 packs for £2 in Asda right now. Incidentally no matter what else you eat, for several hours afterwards the only taste in your mouth will be the Christmas Pudding flavour.

Comment: I don't remember sending in the pictures? Oh well - the green tea Haagen Dazs actually does taste a bit like very cold green tea. At least, more so than the kit-kats. I had some near Kyoto, going over some rapids in a punt. We were being pursued by another punt which was fully equipped with cooking equipment serving freshly fried octopus balls. (And how long before that's a kit-kat flavour...?)

Comment: Oh, and more interestingly, there are other Kit Kats out there in Japan - I also saw boxes containing fourteen individually wrapped half-sticks of various flavours: regular, strawberry, white, and another flavour I couldn't really translate. (It was described as being chewier than usual kit-kat, and dusted in cocoa powder. I guess it was trying to be a little more upmarket, and the taste indeed remindeded me of a very distant, very much forgotten country cousin of Ferrero Rocher.) In addition to this, my friends also told me that recently there has been pineapple flavour. Couldn't find any, but... lawks. -J

Its either the remaining two fingers of green-tea Kit Kat, or a pink cube of a Japanese sweet that's made from tofu and has been sat on my desk for days - and I've no idea if it should kept in the fridge. Comment: I liked the Green tea Kitkats. They taste just like the Green Tea ice cream served in Nobu. mmmm yum. Which is made from real grean tea powder etc..

So unless you've tried true Japanese Green tea from the Green tea powder, you'll probably be expecting something else. Like those over processed, additive riddled, mass produced "Green Tea" plus lemon, apple or other such non-sense you find in Tesco or Sainsbury.

Comment: Any four finger Mint kit Kats out there? Green Apple or banana? These were available in japan once...

BTW the reason Kit Kats are so popular in Japan around exam time is because the name Kit Kat sounds a lot like kitto Katsu in Japanese which means good luck!

Comment: Have to agree with Derm 'n' Rena. I couldn't stomach 'em.

There's a faint smell of sick you get from white chocolate sometimes. The Lemon Cheesecake KK flavour's sickwhiff was quite pronounced, but they were still edible if not brilliant.

The Green Tea variety absolutely reek of it, with a worrying and inexplicable subpong of melting plastic too. It certainly doesn't smell anything like any green tea I've ever drunk... can't comment on the flavour as I never made it that far. (Yeah, I'm a wimp.)

Still, the Japanese people in the room were not put off by the stench, so they didn't go to waste. Though it took a good ten minutes for the objectionable odour to waft away.

Do not spend money on importing these.

Comment: It's normally around $2 a bar plus postage which was $10. And it arrived from Japan to London in under 4 days.

I was well chuffed.

Comment: Hi, I wanted to introduce myself because many people here were "talking about me" but at least they were telling me they were! I wanted to mention that there is another new Kit Kat in Japan but it is limited to Okinawa and is Lime I'm told. I'm trying to find someone going to Okinawa to send some back. Also the Hokkaido White Milk are very nice, a smooth and rich white chocolate. Hokkaido has the best white chocolate and ice cream in all of Japan. Lastly, Mike is right, I hardly ever get my site updated. I must apologize! I hope to do better this year but the last year I was teaching/commuting more than 17 hours every day and the shopping and wrapping my orders didn't leave me much time for anything else! My schedule is much lighter this year, kids are becoming scarce in Japan so two of my high schools are closing, so plan to see more updates!! :)

Comment: By the way, referring to the post about the half bitter and Almond sticks they are both not available now but were last year. I actually have a couple packages of the half bitter in my freezer that I forgot about. This was a good reminder. As soon as I see them out again I'll be sure to get word out. Both were absolutely delicious!

Comment: Almost right Mike, they actually don't play hookie, they come to school but they can't put down their d**n cell phones and their brains are turning to mush, then one day they just disappear! I think they go to cell phone land and then eat Green Tea Kit Kats all day! :)

Posted: 06:24 Thu 24-Mar-2005 by "Vikichan" # permalink comment
Comment: Hi Shellie, My favorite Pocky are the simple ones, I like regular chocolate, Mens (my absolute fav.), Pocky G and all the Almond Crush Pocky. But I like to eat the others from time to time, I just can't eat a whole box! :) My grandma's favorite is Strawberry and she can eat like a case at a time! I really prefer all the Pretz flavors. We got new Fran Rich today in Japan. Fran is made by Meiji and is similar to Pocky but many of my friends say it is better! We got Blueberry Yogurt (very tasty) and Matcha Bitter (Matcha being the type of green tea used in tea ceremonies). I got to taste them at the store! You can find all sorts of Japanese snacks at my site but remember what Mike said "I never get my site updated!" But I will try harder now that my work load will be less!! :) If you want it and don't see it just ask!! Maeberk: thanks for letting me know you got them! I hadn't gotten the email!

Comment: I have a few of the Japanese Takagi-endorsed Passion Fruit Kit Kats in the UK since my friend brought me a handful of them when he came to visit - if anyone wants to swap one for Nagano Apple, Double Berry, Hokkaido Milk, Okinawa Lime, or the regional grape one (if I didn't just dream it), then do let me know! I also have some Green Tea Kit Kats left and a few Christmas Pudding 8-packs. My email is jpss2 at cam dot ac dot uk.

-James P.S. They have Kit-Kat coats for dogs in Japan. The sight of a dog in a big kit-kat wrapper makes me have... strange thoughts... *licks lips*

Comment: Hi Everyone......Guess what happened today? Dare I announce... another new Kit Kat from Japan.. The Crispy Sando (That is Japanese for Sandwich) Chocolate Kit Kat!! I think I've heard of an inside out Kit Kat and that seems to be what this is. The box is larger, the same size as two regular 4 finger bar boxes here in Japan. It is layered with milk chocolate and the wafers are on the outside. I haven't opened my box up yet but I believe they are individually wrapped inside, so you get 4 long bars. They must be tasty made with cocoa butter and cacao!! :) I thought I'd just add the info here because I'm new on the block and didn't know where to add this info! I'll get some pictures up of it and try to get them on my site or I can email them to you and someone can post one here if they'd like! Good night now from Japan!! Viki

Maberk-The Katakana symbols say "Crispy Sando Chocolate" Under that where you point out that it says "Kit Kat" in white it says in Japanese: "Kit Kat Wafer Sandwich" I don't know why they took the Kit Kat logo off the item but the promo material in the stores have the Kit Kat logo on them. That is what led me over to the shelves to have a look! Hope this helps everyone out!! Viki

(breaktown.com) You can play a dog-breeding game in Kit Kat Dog Town (hmmm...) and if you go to the Kit Kat patisserie section, you can see a valentine's cake made out of the various Japanese Kit-Kats.

I've tried them, I prefer simple ice cream but all my friends love them. I haven't seen this Kit Kat yet but the new Almond Sticks I've only found at one convenience store and none of the others even know what I am talking about so it doesn't surprise me.
