Click pic to view comments - Semi-international sighting: Cadbury Dairy Milk Tiffin Semi-international sighting: Cadbury Dairy Milk Tiffin
Posted: 14:05 Wed 22-Dec-2004. Price: 40p. Location: Leeds Market. Sub-flavours: Dairy Milk Caramello (Irish version of DM Caramel), Dairy Milk Golden Crisp (Irish version of the DM Crunchie bar).
"Phillerena" reports: Found this at a stall selling Irish Dairy Milks. They also had Cranberry Crunch and Toffee Crunch like we get over here, so now we know where they originate from. The Tiffin tastes as delicious as I remember, and the chunks are slighly larger but flatter than the Dairy Milks we are used to. A friend of mine also bought one and told me that as he was reaching for a bar, a huge woman's bum appeared in front of him, preventing him from picking one up. An old dear had bent over to pick up some cakes. He had to wait for her to finish before he could get one. Anyway, back to the point: WHY did Cadbury here in the UK get rid of Tiffin? Why oh why oh why why why? It was one of their best bars.

..."Phillerena" returns with this terrifying tale of "grey import" chocolate purchasing on the no-holds-barred streets of Leeds, though would anyone else have appreciated a bit more info that this is actually a "milk chocolate bar with biscuits and fruit" that Cadbury maintain was withdrawn during what they describe as the rationalisation of the 1950s? Still, the other big bar news has to be a certain Mr Kipling stealing the crumbs from the "Kaptain's" table with the release of his Merry Mince Pies, Cherry and Amaretto Squares, Luxury Christmas Squares and - most controversially for Mars Christmas fans - 6 Christmas Pudding and Brandy Sauce Slices, which I can hereby reveal "really aren't bad at all".

Comment: After sampling the Dairy Milk Caramello today I am pleased to inform everyone that it tastes a lot better than our English DM Caramel. Caramel is softer and tastier, if slighltly on the sickly side. Snackspot you would be shocked to see half of the other junk they pedal off at Leeds market.

Comment: Tiffin might have originally been withdrawn in the 50s, but for years you could get it in the Cadbury Classics range (the flat bars that were bigger than standard bars but smaller than slabs). I think it died out around the time the CDM with... range came in.

Comment: These are widely available in Northern Ireland. Although you no longer seem able to get the Caramello. You can, however, get a small bar of CDM with Turkish. 10362 3 29

Comment: I used to love Tiffin bars when I was a kid. I live in the US now, and have not ever seen it. I do agree, I remember the bar as chunky and delicious. Anybody know how to purchase them here?
