Posted: 17:56 Thu 10-Feb-2005. Price: 10p per 40g bag. Location: Home Bargains, Pontefract. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: The same concept as those other recent fruity sweets with liquid centres, Burstin' Bugs or something. You only get about 7 sweets in the bag but at least they are cheap.

...Yes, "MHS" got in first again with this one (evidently arriving in Home Bargains long after the TV show has disappeared from our screens), but "Phillerena" provided a slightly better picture of them "in action", elaborating: At a mere 10p per bag I thought "Why not?" They have after all been on Snackspot's awaited list for some time. They are said to be "Bug shaped soft sweets with juicy liquid centres", which is actually a rather accurate description. They look like normal gummed sweets but that's before you bite into them. They are actually quite disgusting psychologically, as you imagine that you're really biting into some strange bug when the liquid centre oozes out like blood. This was very off-putting. A nice gimmick but so nice to eat! I wonder if a Celeb Big Brother jelly is next on the list... And comiserations meanwhile to "MarcB", who - in keeping with "I'm A Celebrity" tradition - lost his nerve at the last minute, tearfully confessing: These do exist! I saw an empty packet strewn on the floor in Lancaster city centre - I didn't have the guts to take a picture of it though!

Comment: this is slightly off the topic...but does anyone remember a jelly like candy from around the 90s... it looked like one of them deodorant sticks where you turn the bit at the bottom and cream comes out of loads of little holes at the top...except it was candy/jelly. i remember buying it from the sweetshop when i was younger, with ring pops and push pops, and them little cartons of jelly drinks. 26753 8
