Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Nestle Polo Plus Vivazol Confirmed sighting: Nestle Polo Plus Vivazol
Posted: 19:08 Mon 14-Mar-2005. Price: about 40p. Location: McColls, Farringdon, London; Lancaster University Newsagents. Nutritional unusualness: Vivazol = Peppermint Oil + Menthol + Parsley Leaf Oil.
"Leigh O'Riordan" reports: Was just reading your review of the Polo Orbs which I also agree are a waste of time and money I see you have had no reports of Polo + yet. I purchased a tube of these at McColls as above last week and I was very impressed. Definitely a lot mintier and the taste lasts a fair amount of time. I'm not sure on their claim that they last longer in the mouth but I'll definitely be buying this over the normal Polos unless Vivazol proves to be cancerous or something.

...First-time spotter "Leigh" got in first with this latest variation on Nestle's controversially annular mouth freshener, though the pic comes from "MarcB", who seemed somewhat less impressed overall by the prospect of consuming its essence of "parsley leaf": Saw these in the campus newsagents and decided to buy a pack. They're just the same colour as normal Polos execept they have little green flecks in. The pack also looks like it may be the first in a new range (other things could be easily tacked on the end instead of the mysterious Vivazol!). As for the taste, the brutal truth is I can't tell the difference (it claims to have a longer lasting minty flavour...)!

Comment: The golden question: do they contain Nestle's patented bowel-slackening sweetener, or real sugar?

If it's the latter, they sound rather good.

Comment: Sugar is the first ingredient on the list. I am sure that these are a lot smaller in size than regular Polos, or perhaps they have just downsized the whole Polo range. Anyway I thought they were slightly mintier and have a fresher taste but not very noticeable.

Comment: Surprisingly, I first spotted these in a rural petrol station (Five Cross Filling Station, between Crossways and Moreton railway station in Dorset) on Tuesday. Stronger taste, for sure... though it's not as durable as I'd hope, I still made the roll last longer than a normal roll (two hours, c.f. <60mins for an average roll).

Also, I may have found the unlikeliest location for the country's lowest price on these mints - 36p at that rural filling station (c.f. 24p for a normal roll). That makes them just a penny dearer than ordinary rolls at my school (which bumps the price up to gain revenue and discourage consumption). Wow.

Comment: I noticed these in my local newsagents. Everyone in the office seems slightly suspicious of the green flecks, but they taste like polos so I'm happy. Not sure about the added mintiness though?!

Comment: I actually found them quite refreshing. The tastes definately stays longer, if not the mint. Great help for people trying to give up smoking,(Preferable taste to phlegm!). I look forward to seeing if they do decide to produce more add ins.

Comment: These things seem weaker than ordinary polos, though the after effects last longer, I think the vivazol is meant to keep the mouth fresher, as opposed to actually being mintier. Also, I think that, if it does so, the way I believe it does, then yes, Roo, potentially it could cause stomach ache, because I suspect the vivazol works to kill bacteria, possibly, which a stomach needs in order to digest.

However, these are the freshest tasting polos I've ever had.

Comment: I think you've had enough Polos...

Speaking of Polos, what ever happened to those "Butter-up" ones? I really liked those.

Comment: Yep, the Vivazol and Butter ones have been discontinued.

I really liked the Citrus ones from a few years ago.

Comment: i am eating them at the moment, i got sent to the shop earlier today to fetch some milk and spotted these next to the counter and thought id give them a bash as i love polos but they dont seem to last long enough, when i got home i opened them and felt abit suspicious about the green bits, but once i ate the first i thought they were great, and the freshness lasts longer so the packet lasts longer, well worth my 39p .. i'd recomend them!

Comment: I had some Polo Xtra Strong the other day. They were in a black packet and supposedly had 'Menthol for longer lasting freshness', but were not really any stronger than a normal mint.
