Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Walls Magnum 5 Senses "Aroma" and "Touch" Confirmed sighting: Walls Magnum 5 Senses "Aroma" and "Touch"
Posted: 22:44 Mon 21-Mar-2005. Price: 1.40. Location: Newsagent, Belsize Park. Sub-flavours: Aroma and Touch so far - Sound, Vision and Taste to come. Nutritional unusualness: 27g carbohydrate, 18-19g fat per 88g lolly.
Snackspot reports: A somewhat uninspired follow-up to 2003's Magnum 7 Deadly Sins and last year's Cornetto Love Potions - "Aroma" is described as "Vanilla flavour ice cream with milk chocolate (28%) and Coffee Beans" (ie a normal vanilla magnum with coffee beans stuck to the outside, which are certainly aromatic when you open the packet, but also make the solid vanilla centre seem a bit dull by comparison). "Touch" on the other hand is "Hazelnut ice cream with milk chocolate (28%) and hazelnut pieces (5%)" which has a bit more going on and reminds me of nothing so much as the old Magnum which you used to be able to get with chocolate and almonds on the outside.

...Nonetheless, these two new Magnums come in a nice matt-effect plasticised wrapper - and so might the Skittles Rocket Lolly which "Holden Caulfield" found in a Finsbury Park supermarket a while ago, but his picture didn't come through so all we have are his comments: Since the tragic demise of the gorgeous Skittles lolly - the one comprising three round Skittles-style ice pods on a stick - I have been looking out for more Skittles ice cream products. Late last night I battled through the snow to the refuge of a supermarket by Finsbury Park tube station in London, only to find that they've prepared for the cold snap by stocking a freezer full of new lollies! The Skittles Rocket is very much like the old "Zoom" ice lolly - I believe with three levels of flavour - and with no clear tie to the Skittles "round pellets of candy" concept.

Comment: These Magnum 5 Senses seem very un-inspiring.

Comment: All 5 available in Tesco (Islington) in packs of 3 (currently on a 2 for 1 offer) - 'taste' (caramel/vanilla) is supplied in both boxes (fairly uninspired lolly). Sound (coconut) was surprisingly loud (not for cinemas) - crunchy flavoured candy/coconut bits in the chocolate. Taste (strawberry) was very strongly flavoured, not unpleasant 'fake' strawb though. Best bit was the boxes - one matt silver, the other a lovely matt bronze.

Comment: Am I the only one who, when watching the Magnum Senses commercial with the rapidly chaging montage, is reminded of the video from "The Ring"?

Comment: for the definitive answer, check out the Latin 1st & 2nd declension adjectives at http://www.forumromanum.org/latin/adjectives.html Take your pick, but 'Magnums' it's not!

Comment: Hia, this is new to me, but when I went shopping in asda (llansamlet swansea) I tasted sound. I felt like i was on a Carribean island! I have seen the posts wich make magnum5senses seem boring, dull, and un-inspiring, but for all you who have yet to try it, honestly, me, my friends and familly love them. So what if they have been around before in a different paket? This dose not make them less-interresting. Lovely on a hot Summers day, and if you like the original Magnum, treat yourself to a bit of a change. My tip: Scoff the chocolate around it first, so that it doesn't melt!!! (:P)

Comment: I had "Touch" in Portugal. Literally nothing to write home about. Not terrible but not thrilling either. Maybe I'm just getting more difficult to please.

I thought I'd be more satisfied with my magnum seeing as I'd walked 4 miles in 28C sunshine with no fluids. But I'm afraid this was not the case.
