Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Emmi Caffe Latte Confirmed sighting: Emmi Caffe Latte
Posted: 23:12 Tue 12-Apr-2005. Price: 69p/ 230ml. Location: Waitrose, Finchley Road, London. Sub-flavours: Espresso, Cappuccino, or Macchiato. Nutritional unusualness: 10.5g carbohydrate per 100g, sugar content - not specified, "Coffee content: 70mg per cup".
Snackspot reports: From the Swiss makers of last year's "Natural Beauty From Within" tasty Aloe Vera, yoghurt and lemon drink comes a chilled ready-to-drink coffee which - amazingly - tastes even more metallic than the rival Master Cafe product (which comes in a can), even though it comes in a plastic cup. Admittedly, I've only tried the "Cappuccino" variety so far (which has "Espresso + Milk" written all over the container like some crazed version of Kinder Eggs for grown-ups), but somehow I just expected it to be frothier after following the somewhat repetitive instructions "To Enjoy Ice Cold, Shake For 15 Seconds, Remove Foil And Enjoy".

...In other caffeinated curiosities: Glacier boiled-sweets and XXX Mint-makers Fox's Confectionery claim to have unleashed XXXTreme mixed fruit flavour sweets with added taurine and caffeine ("one pack equivalent to one pack of strong coffee", apparently), while "Sandy" claims to have seen the mythical Boots Caffeine infused soluble strips in Bath, apologising: Spotted this in Boots yesterday but sorry don't have a lot of info apart from where I saw it and that was in the vitamin section amongst the Pro Plus and other caffeine/ stimulant products. Not something I would buy as I'd rather have a cup of coffee so left it on the shelf so no photo, soz!

Comment: Those cafe latte things have been a staple in Jack Fultons stores since around Autumn last year. I used to enjoy them, there was one in a darker coloured plastic container which wasn't so nice though. The offer was 3 for £1. They had the aloe vera thing too which I didn't dare to try.

Comment: ah, yes, good point P - they've previously been available in "independents", but are now being rolled out to "multiples"

Comment: I bought XXXTreme mixed fruit flavoured sweets from a newsagent(Douglas News) in Duke Street, Darlington. Sadly I ate the entire packet before discovering this site. The sweets are shaped like the XXX Mints and taste like glucose tablets laced with Pro-Plus.

And my God, they work too. The shop has sold out and I can't find them anywhere else in the area. The Fox's website hasn't been updated in nearly a year so that's useless. This product would be HUGE if only people could buy it!

Comment: I lived on caffe lattes in summer 2006 while in Switzerland (Luzern, where they make them). The expresso one is the best as it provides the best caffeine hit. Tesco sell cappuccino flavour and the delicious choco latte. Anything made by emmi is lush, especially the chocolate creme pudding!
