Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Pringles Tomato and Mozzarella flavour Confirmed sighting: Pringles Tomato and Mozzarella flavour
Posted: 11:49 Fri 22-Apr-2005. Price: 1.39. Location: Jacksons Supermarket, South Elmsall, Yorkshire. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: The newest stop-off point in Mr Pringle's attempt to Taste The World seems to be somewhere in Tuscany, judging by the very rustic looking picture on the bottom half of this new flavour's packaging tube. A picnic table laid out with lots of tomatoes, onions, slices of bread, etc. in the middle of some strangely orange countryside. The Taste The World logo only appears on the paper seal at the top of the tube this time around. The crisps themselves have a lovely strong tomato and cheese flavour - reminding me of the Walkers Mediterranean Tomato and Basil from last year. Even the aroma from an empty tube is enough to bring back happy memories of the crisps days later. These are a very nice addition to the Pringles range.

..."Magnetic Ham Sandwich" resumes our conventional crisp coverage with what appears to be the UK version of the Tomato and Mozzarella ones that "Marc" spotted in Germany last year. Apparently they should also be introducing Mediterranean Salsa Dippers around about now as well, plus a Star Wars Episode III tie-in that encourages buyers to wave around the (empty?) tubes like they were Jedi light-sabres or something.

Comment: All 3 varieties of Stax are still on the shelves down at Plymouth Asda. I don't know if they are new stock, or just Christmas stock still left over. The Cheese & Onion were really nice.

Comment: Tomato and Mozzarella pringles sound nice, but isn't there a Pizza flavour already? Which I haven't tried. Maybe the Pizza ones had the meaty flavours added to them as well.

Comment: They used to do strawberry Jafas years ago didnt they? And lemon ones.

Comment: Can they really call them "jaffa" cakes if they have a berry filing? Surely that would be a contradiction in terms?

Comment: Actually I think it may have been Burtons that did the strawberry ones.

Comment: In another international sighting, I tried Japan's "French Consomme" flavour a few weeks ago.

Not really worth writing about, though, as it's just yet another variant that tastes of MSG and little else (not that I don't love MSG, but still). Same as the Paprika, Barbecue, Bacon etc. flavours (and the German Hot 'n' Spicy - the Germans hate strongly-flavoured crisps for some reason).

So dunno why I'm writing about it anyway. I must be one hell of a bore.

Bye then!!!
