Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Volvic Splash - Orange Flavour Confirmed sighting: Volvic Splash - Orange Flavour
Posted: 19:15 Mon 02-May-2005. Price: 75p. Location: Random 24 hour newsagent - Argyle Street, Glasgow. Sub-flavours: Blackcurrant (pictured), and "Plain". So just water then. Nutritional unusualness: "Low Sugar Content" (ie 4.8g per 100ml = 15.84g per bottle).
"Stephen Craig" reports: Coming in a squat, 330ml bottle cynically emblazoned with characters from SpongeBob Squarepants ("Watch SpongeBob Squarepants EVERY DAY on Nickelodeon" orders the corner of the label ominously), this appears to be little more than Volvic Touch of Fruit. But For Kids. And with SpongeBob Squarepants all over the bottle. Er. Taste wise, it's closest to something like diluted Robinsons - utterly uninspiring, but perfectly drinkable in a perfunctorily thirst-quenching way. Perhaps the target demographic (SpongeBob Squarepants-obsessed youths craving something with the taste of Tesco Value Orange Squash - but transparent, I assume) will enjoy it slightly more than I did. Ho-hum.

..."Stephen Craig" seems unimpressed, but I must admit to quite enjoying Volvic Touch of Fruit's mid-calorie kick (especially when served extra-cold) - I have, however, since tried the Blackcurrant SpongeBob variety, only to discover it tastes of (what else but!) Blackcurrant Chewits. In other beverage bulletins: The Grocer notes that Vittel are launching their own "No Sugar" competitors to Volvic's flavoured mineral waters (in Lemon or Raspberry) while, speaking of blackcurrant, GlaxoSmithKline's "no added sugar" Ribena Really Light claims to be replacing both Ribena Light and Ribena Toothkind.
