Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Mango Chilli flavour Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Mango Chilli flavour
Posted: 23:00 Tue 10-May-2005. Price: 1.39. Location: Waitrose, Plymouth. Nutritional unusualness: 36g of fat and 81g carbohydrates in each 150g bag.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: The latest seasonal edition of the ever popular Kettle Chips is Mango Chilli. Coming in bright orange and gold packs so you can't miss them on the shelves - although this flavour is apparently confined to just Waitrose and larger Sainsbury's stores. The sweetness of the real dried mango hits your tastebuds first - followed about a second later by the strong kick of the chilli. These are pretty hot crisps - a glance at the ingredients reveals a savage combination of white wine vinegar, dried onion, chilli powder, dried garlic, cumin and even dried lemon combining to great effect. Although overall I would still pick last year's Sweet Chilli flavour (in the red and green bags) ahead of these given the choice.

...In other savoury sensations: United Biscuits are launching Branston Pickle Mini Cheddars; Salt and Vinegar and Salt and Black Pepper appear to be the new (cheese-free!) flavours of Golden Wonder Golden Skins; and "David Glen" seems almost suspiciously enthusiastic about the Chilli and Rosemary Cheeky Chilli Popcorn he paid 1.29 for in the Mitre Pub, Fulham, London, raving: WOW! Eventually something that is different, cool and a healthier option! The flavour is subtle initially but grows as you munch through the packet. LOVE IT. Hope they bring out other flavours.

Comment: I tried the loaded cheese flavour and any flavour extensions can only be a plus. They are much better than sensations *yawn*

Comment: Mango Chille (which I just typed as Mange Chilli - appetising) are also found in the Sainsbury's-owned Jacksons, at least in York.

They also have the elusive Mediterranian Salsa Pringles.

Comment: I've had the two new flavours of Golden Skins. Like Snackspot says - they're the first non-cheese related flavours released. Both Salt n' Vinegar and Salt & Pepper have a lovely mild yet lingering flavour. Very easy on the tongue. They were 42p a bag from Costcutters by the way.
