Confirmed sighting: Marks and Spencer Full On Flavour crisps
Posted: 23:12 Sun 15-May-2005. Price: £1.19 each or £2 for 2. Location: Marks and Spencer, Plymouth.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: Well it looks like we have to say a sad goodbye to Marks and Spencer's Flavourburst range of crisps. I think we were up to 6 different amazing flavours at the end. They were truly the best crisps ever sold in Britain, but now M and S have come up with a new range of crisps under the "Full On Flavour" title - ironically with less flavour than the Flavourbursts had. There are 8 varieties to choose from - Sweet Thai Chilli and Coriander (quite mild actually), Oriental Spring Onion (emphasis very much on the word Oriental here - the soy sauce drowns out any spring onion that may be present), Four Cheese and Red Onion (very cheesy, as you'd expect but not much onion), Roast Chicken and Herb (slightly off-tasting chicken with some vague herb extract), Sea Salt and Cracked Peppercorn (a nice balance of the salt and pepper tastes), Roast Beef and Onion (nice hit of onion in these after the initial beef flavour), Honey Roast Wiltshire Ham (there's only a hint of honey present but the ham flavour is nice and strong), Lightly Sea Salted (a nice plain crisp, but i'm not sure how a plain flavour can be "full on"). The packs all have a strange double fold down the sides, meaning that any small crisps at the bottom of the packs can "hide" in the corners and be hard to retrieve.
...An extensive own-brand update from "MHS" here, to which I can only add that I saw a range of (non ice-cream) Lolly Chocs in Notting Hill Marks and Spencer the other week, the chocolate variety promising "Layered mousse filling with cocoa nibs in smooth milk chocolate", all moulded onto a standard wooden lolly stick.

Comment: Talking about shop's own-brand crisps, has anyone tried the latest limited edition flavour from Morrisons? Their old Doner Kebab flavour has now been replaced with Lamb & Mint. You can get 18 packs for £2. The bags are a bright mint green, but don't let that mislead you as the actual flavour of the crisps is a very realistic lamb - much better than the similar flavour offered by Walkers Sensations. These crisps remind me of the glory days of the old Brannigan's Lamb & Mint flavour.

Comment: They taste alright, but the colour of the packet puts me right off. I have to tip them all out onto a plate.

Comment: Six of the eight M&S Full on Flavour crisps have now appeared in smaller 25g pack sizes spread across 2 different multipacks of 6. So you can now sample the full-on taste without risking the purchase of a large size bag. The only two flavours you can't get in the multipacks seem to be Roast Chicken and Oriental Onion. All the flavours are nice and strong in these smaller bags by the way.

Comment: Just to say for all you Salt 'n' Vinegar fans, M&S have now added that old favourite to their Full On Flavour range - flavour number 9. The sea salt and malt vinegar used work well together if you like that sort of thing.
