Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Walkers Sensations Olive Oil Confirmed sighting: Walkers Sensations Olive Oil
Posted: 19:50 Thu 09-Jun-2005. Price: 50p or thereabouts. Location: Skypark, Finneston, Glasgow. Sub-flavours: Lightly salted, Sun ripened tomato and basil, Mozzarella and oregano. Nutritional unusualness: "Olive Oil 30% of weight".
"aerisdead" reports: I've been picking up a packet of these each morning, because I like them. Low in saturated fats and with no preservatives or anything, they serve as a good (if slightly pricey) alternative when I can't get Golden Wonder ready salted. More for the crisp fan who likes the taste of the oil and the potato, rather than the salt.

...Sorry, I would have got this sighting up yesterday, but first-time spotter "aerisdead" confessed "I'm at work, so conspicuously taking photos of half-eaten packets of crisps is probably not all that possible". Total UK crisp consumption may be down (though sales of Walkers Sensations are reported to be up 34% for the year ending October 2004) - hoping to fill in any shortfall over the next few months, according to The Grocer, will be: Apple Nibbles from "Crisps for snobs" makers Jonathan Crisp; Sunflower seeds and oats and Pumpkin seeds and oats varieties of Ryvita crispbread; plus a Planters Premium Nut Range - including "Nut and Fruit Mix with Cranberries" and "Sea Salt and Black Pepper Cashews" - all emblazoned with "Mr Peanut's" sinisterly monocled visage.

Comment: There's another new flavour of Sensations crackers out, too - "Indonesian Hot Wok". Are we to assume that they actually taste of a frying pan?

- maybe the appalling crunchiness of Kettle Chips is an attempt to replicate the texture of real kettles?

Comment: i think you may be on to something there, perhaps 'glass chips' would work too?

Comment: You can find these crisps in Wilkinsons right now at 99p for a nice big 110g bag. The best flavour for me is the Mozzarella & Oregano - a lovely subtle combination that gets better the further down the bag you go. Just right for the current Mediterranean style weather we are experiencing.

Comment: The only size i've seen the Lightly Salted variety in so far is the smaller 40g bags priced at 55p. Although supposedly only lightly salted, there seemed to be plenty of salt on the crisps - but also an incredible amount of oil. Even more so than you get in the notoriously greasy Walkers packets these days. The olive oil left such a thick coating on all my fingers after the pack was empty that I had to go and wash my hands before touching anything else. 84512
