Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Iceland Sweet Shop Favourites Assorted Lollies Confirmed sighting: Iceland Sweet Shop Favourites Assorted Lollies
Posted: 23:03 Thu 04-Aug-2005. Price: 8 for 1. Location: Iceland. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Daniel Thornton" reports: Freezer house Iceland have altered their Sweet Shop Favourites ice lolly line with three entirely new flavours. Now banana foam and Black Jack, fair enough I used to eat loads of those, but did cherry cola sweets ever exist? The picture on the box is clearly a bog-standard Kola Kube. These lollies are jolly nice in any case; the banana foam is the best, refreshing without being too synthetic tasting. The cherry cola is okay, but nowt special, and the Black Jack is just slightly too weak in flavour and under-represented in the pack with only two versus three each for the banana and cola variants. These will vanish without trace within weeks as Iceland continue to decrease their product range down to just nine freezers full of low grade meatburgers, so wise types would stock up on them right now. And isn't Black Jack a brand name, rather than a generic product anyway?

...Yes, it's an "own-brand" sighting, but top marks nonetheless to "Daniel Thornton" for such a detailed identification of this development in Iceland's much-discussed "Sweet Shop" lollies range. But if you're looking for "a bit more" in your ice-creams nowadays, The Grocer magazine reckons that the appealingly-named Dutch Vitalice lollies are already arriving in the UK, in either Vitamin Kick Multifruit, or Energy Kick Red Orange (both from 1.19).

Comment: Cherry Cola sweets abound in Bolton. I liked them more than regular cola bottles though I now admit they taste the same.

Comment: Cherry Cola is just Kola Kube flavour, and very nice. Not tried Blackjack yet, while Banana Foams were just too big and sickly.
