Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Robinsons High Juice Apple, Cherry and Raspberry Confirmed sighting: Robinsons High Juice Apple, Cherry and Raspberry
Posted: 17:05 Sat 20-Aug-2005. Price: 1.29. Location: Somerfield, St Enoch Square, Glasgow. Nutritional unusualness: Made with 50% juice from concentrate - Apple 40%, Cherry 5%, Raspberry 5%.
"Stephen Craig" reports: Robinsons does Vimto. Ish. As they get it all wrong. But not in a bad way. You can ignore the Apple and Raspberry on the label. Like a legitimate business and company boss covering illicit mafia activity, it's clear to all that despite Apple making up 40% of the entire volume of the bottle, it's the brutal cherry godfather that's running the show. Indeed, so strong is the cherry taste, that after the first glass I was all but ready to throw the bottle in the bin. However, even for someone who doesn't like cherries that much, it's a grower and I'd soon polished off the entire bottle. The key seems to be the two other flavours they've used to temper and take the edge off of the cherry resulting in a pleasantly distinctive squash. As stated above, it's definitely got something of the Vimtos about it, but the cherry dominance makes it different enough to consider. (I don't think I've ever used the word "cherry" so often in one paragraph.)

...Well, sometimes life is just a "bowl of cherries", "Stephen", as proved by the additional news that Muller are adding a Cherry Bakewell Tart flavour to their dessert-based Mullerlight range, while Hubba Bubba have replaced Sour cherry and lemon Mix and Match with "Sour raspberry and watermelon" (57p), though Cheeky Black Cherry Bubble Tape will replace the "Sour apple" variety.

Comment: This stuff is excellent. Almost as good as the old grape and melon flavour that was discontinued because, I suspect, I was the only person who ever bought it. If you want to help me get it reinstated (if indeed it was discontinued) then sign this pledge at http://www.pledgebank.com/grapeandmelon

Comment: I had grape and melon flavour recently...has a weird taste, sort of like gone-off cider.

Comment: Robinson's has e-mailed me to tell me that Grape & Melon flavour is very much still going, but my local supermarkets are failing to stock it. Bah.
