Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Mallow Cake Bar
Posted: 22:18 Wed 24-Aug-2005. Price: Not sure. Location: Manchester. Nutritional unusualness: 133 calories, 5.8g fat per cake.
"Gemma" reports: "Cake bar covered in plain chocolate, with fluffy marshmallow and the smashing orangey bit". We were a bit unsure about the addition of the marshmallow, but actually it works really well with the orange jelly.
..."Gemma" also provided this action shot of the product flaunting its double zero-VAT rated status - while, in other cake-bar confusion, "Stephen Craig" has been paying 69-79p in Tesco, Argyle Street, Glasgow for their New York Style Cheesecake range, commenting: Comprising barely more than a mouthful (although with a bit of effort, you can fit a whole one in your gob), these new cakes are positioned in the sandwich fridges, clearly designed as an impulse buy for the office-working, lunchtime BLT purchaser. The Chocolate Fudge Cake Bar is surprisingly rich and smooth for something that costs 69p - tastes more of cocoa powder than actual real chocolate obviously, but that's more or less a given. While the cheesecake is less decent, comprising a nice moist biscuit base let down somewhat by a stodgy, dry, er, "cheese" with a consistency reminiscent of badly mixed wallpaper paste. But nicer tasting obv. Not actively terrible or anything mind, just not great. And I haven't tried the carrot cake. I don't like carrot cake.
