Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Pepperidge Farm Finz! Confirmed sighting: Pepperidge Farm Finz!
Posted: 18:37 Thu 15-Sep-2005. Price: 1.39. Location: Tesco's, Lisburn. Sub-flavours: Original Cheddar; Burstin' BBQ; Xtra Cheddar; Screamin' Salt and Vinegar. Nutritional unusualness: 55 pieces is the recommended serving size.
"jb" reports: Found these in Tesco, they appear to be American. Only saw the original and the salt and vinegar variety. Cheesy biscuits as interpreted by the Americans. It's been ages since I had Mini Cheddars but I am suitably confused by the fish shaped biscuits when they are supposed to taste of cheese. Worringly the packet does encourage us to get violent with them - "Bite off their heads! Rip off their tails!". America has a lot of violence doesn't it?

...A surprise UK arrival here for these "Flavour Blasted" Mini Baked Snack Crackers - which have also just appeared in my local Sainsbury's, and are oddly smaller (yet almost terrifyingly tasty) compared to the German Mini-Cheddar-style Goldfischli which I spotted near Croydon last Christmas. Meanwhile, in other Pepperidge Farm-related puzzlement, "Kristy" pondered: Does anyone know where to get Pepperidge Farm Soft Baked Oatmeal and Raisin Cookies? I found them online at Tesco.com initially and got hooked on them, now they're no longer available there and I can't find them anywhere else!

Comment: Yes indeedy these would seem to be the British version of the American Goldfish crackers. They are damned good.

Comment: Until recently, at least, giant tescos sold PF soft-baked oatmeal&R cookies. Super cookes - microwave for 30s - yum.

I bought some salt&vinegar Finz this weekend - thrilled to see so much PF stuff in the UK, almost subsisted on their cookies etc in california 8-)

Comment: I heard from the American food buyer at Partidges today that Tesco has bought Pepperidge Farm and will soon no longer allow any competitors to carry their products here in the UK. Can anyone verify?

Comment: YES!!!! These are the real PF Goldfish (although I never saw them in Salt and Vinegar in the States before) They are produced in the States and have the same great Cheddar taste. Funny, don't think they can call them goldfish here as there is no actual fish content in them. I found mine at Waitrose. Hope they bring over the Parmesean flavor (Guess that would be flavour here)soon!

Comment: Reply to "sss" - Pepperidge Farm is owned by Campbells who also have the brands OXO, Batchelors and Homepride. Can't see them selling off the Pepperidge Farm brand in Europe and it's a huge cash cow to them in the States. Can't prove the rumor wrong, but I can throw a lot of doubt on it!

Comment: It seems that ex-pat Americans are going bananas over these little biscuits. And rightly so. They are worringly addictive

Comment: I saw them in Sainsbury's and I almost pee'd in my pants I was so pleased!

Might add that the salt and vinegar are SERIOUSLY strong - thought the insides of my mouth were in for a stripping!

ROLL ON with the pizza flavour! *sighs*

Comment: Reply to Recent Ex-pat American - I tend to agree with you. I checked out as many business sites as I could think of and googled it as well. I found nothing about it. In the meantime Partridges has Goldfish, imported from the US, which is strange as you can get Finz anywhere else! Thanks for the response.

Comment: Thank you for your recent email regarding Goldfish Crackers. Unfortunately we do not currently distribute Goldfish Crackers in the UK, however, we do have plans to begin this line later in the year.

These crackers will not be sold under the Goldfish name though, and will instead be known as Finz Crackers. Although they are a product of Campbell's America, we will not have control over the distribution of these crackers as this is being undertaken by an intermediary company called Jenks

Comment: Yes I used to buy Salt & Vinegar Finz at Tesco (Superstore) and once found them in Sainsbury's. However for the past few months I have not seen them in either location. Have not looked at ASDA but has anyone else seen them anywhere lately? Please help - hungry - or maybe that should be addicted.

Comment: Welcome back, Snackspot by the way. I just bought some Finz! toady, the "Xtra cheddar" flavour, priced at 39p a pack or 3 for £1 from Heron - Bargain. They're alright but I've never liked them as much as the US version, not as much air in these, makes them less light.

Comment: I found some at Home Bargains in Sheffield, the Cheddar flavour ones. I nearly went into some sort of ecstatic trance when I found them as they're one of my favourites when I go back home but I've never seen them before here. I bought a bunch and am currently hoarding the last bag away against a rainy day...
