Posted: 13:32 Wed 19-Oct-2005. Price: 4.99. Location: Sainsbury's, Plymouth. Nutritional unusualness: 18.7g fat per 100g.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: Alerted by Sandy's comments in the Nowadays Vs Yesteryear thread, I popped into Sainsbury's on Saturday. Alongside the regular boxes of Quality Street were some slightly larger boxes (600g) of limited edition Quality Street. They come in the traditional lilac packaging with the picture of the soldier boy and the country lady on the front. Being slightly larger than the regular boxes, they don't count in the 2 for 6 offer Sainsbury's have on similar boxes of chocolates - but who cares when you can taste 4 long-gone sweets again? In my box there were 6 or 7 each of the 4 old favourites - Goosberry Cream (yummy fruity taste), Coffee Cream (a bit sugary and bland), Chocolate Octagon (double choc paradise), and Toffee Deluxe (chewy toffee and choc) - alongside similar proportions of 6 sweets still available in the standard boxes today (green triangle, purple hazelnut, pink fudge, red strawberry creme, toffee finger and toffee penny). This was a very tasty and very welcome surprise from Nestle. I wonder if any other companies will follow the retro trail Nestle are leading us down?

...Who knows, "MHS", who knows - but Nestle are certainly blazing the way by also reviving (in conjunction with Richmond Ice Cream) new Rolo, Black Forest, and Fruit Trifle "Ice Cream" (ie Arctic) Rolls, cryogenically preserved since their futuristic heyday of the 1970s.

Comment: Have they just collected all the ones the nation has left in the tin after Christmas?

Comment: Now piled up in Woolworths at the tasty reduced price of just £2.99 as their Christmas chocolate needs to be sold to make room for their Easter chocolate. Stock up now Gooseberry and Coffee fans.

Comment: i tried them with my xmas woolie's gift voucher when they were reduced... the gooseberry was not very gooseberrylike. but quite nice in a mild lime way. maybe good with tequila. or pushed into the neck of your corona!

Comment: great idea "charl" - not that I'm usually a coffee fan, but that one wasn't much to write home about, and the two toffee ones? bor-ing... 83369 0
