Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Terry's Caramel Bite Confirmed sighting: Terry's Caramel Bite
Posted: 22:37 Wed 09-Nov-2005. Price: 49p. Location: Newsagent, Stretford. Nutritional unusualness: Contains Hazelnut.
"Mike Gray" reports: What's to say, really? "Crispy cereal, caramel and biscuit" is what it promises, and that's about what you get. You get two small bars, Milky Way style. Chocolate isn't great, and the chocolatey biscuit makes it a little sickly.

...Apparently this "two small bars" format is all the rage nowadays, "Mike", with both Kingsize Mars and Snickers bars due to rebrand as Mars and Snickers "Duo" like this in the New Year (handily, I notice that it also means that Terry's can give just the nutritional information "per 100g" and "per 28g bar" for this 56g-total offering). In other chocolate-flavoured chewiness: Terry's Chocotoff are new bags of "delicious smooth toffees, smothered with sumptuous rich dark chocolate" and apparently "perfect for social sharing occasions" (250g for 1.79); Fox's Biscuits are following up their Rocky Rubble experiment with a "Double Trouble" limited edition and Bourbon-style cookie sandwich Rocky RUKs (69p for pack of 8); while, if the Hot Rum variety wasn't spicy enough for you, you may prefer the chilli-flavoured Yorkie chunks available in Nestle's Yorkie Roulette (3.49).

Comment: I shared my find of Terry's Caramel Bite with my daughter who was surprised that there had been a new variety she had not noticed before. We both love it. YUMMY! This makes a change for me as there are not many chocolates that I like. I find that too much sugar has been put in them and I get a terrible burn from it. I have always said that I should be one of the testers for confectionery as I would be the first to regulate it back to a sensible amount. I hope that someone takes note of my remarks! So I feel that Terry's Caramel has all my desired ingredients :hazelnuts, puffed rice and caramel and a mild chocolate.

Comment: The new Double Trouble Rocky bars are nice, but a little hard to bite into. There's no layer of caramel inside to soften the bar - just white chocolate inside the milk chocolate coating. I used to really like the Jam & Cream ltd edition Rockys from a couple of years ago.

Comment: I had some of the Rocky RUKS biscuits over Christmas as they were just 35p from Asda. Basically they're just small round chocolate cream biscuits with a tiny bit of almost tasteless toffee poking through an 'R' shaped hole in the middle of the top layer of biscuit. Nothing to make you want to buy them again, just like the Double Trouble Rocky Bars.

Comment: there's loads of these caramel bites in woolies at the moment, but i still haven't found chocotoffs yet. i can't believe they are perfect for the "social sharing occasion", as i prefer not to listen to groups of people masticating repeatedly and loudly.

Comment: They way I'd describe these is that its what would happen if you melted a Toffee Crisp over a Drifter, and then let it all harden again. Nice and tasty though.

Comment: I'm loving the new Caramel Bite. I've been waiting for this, being a nestle boycotter I was really missing toffee crips and lion bars. So this fills that gap for me.

Comment: Magnetic Ham Sandwich - regarding the Jam n' cream Rockys from a couple of years ago, I can reveal that they were discontinued due to a number of problems with the manufacturing process - they caused a lot of headaches!

The Honeycomb Rockys in the purple packaging were genius though - I had the honour of tasting some of those straight off the line, and they were very good fresh ;-)

Comment: Terry's Ratbury Bite is a ripe transit of full caramel and a chocolate layer, and it features some kind of "bits" that flood the bar and make it an ethical alternative to you-know-whose "baby eating / bloating" Toffee Crisp. Well done Terry for this offering! And for the cardboard insert which I like to retain because as my wife says "all stationery requires a tray of some kind for display purposes".
