Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Sweet Red Pepper and Sun Dried Tomato Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Sweet Red Pepper and Sun Dried Tomato
Posted: 22:00 Mon 14-Nov-2005. Price: Part of 2 for 2 deal (Deal may have expired now). Location: Sainsbury's, Mansfield. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"E.W." reports: This could be seen as a competitor for the Salsa with Mesquite variant. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it isn't. Salsa With Mesquite wins hands down due its luxurious smoked salsa taste. This doesn't stop Sweet Red Pepper and Sun Dried Tomato from being another excellent edition based on its own merits. When you open the bag you are welcomed by an aromatic waft of herbs (if I remember correctly one of them being basil) and the strong scent of the unmistakable sun-dried tomato accompianed by sweet red pepper, the taste is spot on and it's all rounded off with the authentic Kettle crunch (which is for the acquired crisp eater as some people have described it as "the CD case crunch"). One of the best editions this season not forgeting the marvellous return of Roquefort and French Onion, which for any Kettle fanatic needs no introduction. Overall - a must buy, great for an evening in or for you to just delve into yourself!

...Kettle Chips completist "E.W." makes good on his earlier promise here - though of course, other pretentious gourmet snack brands are available, as Hot Chilli Lemon and Firecracker Lobster pioneers Burts have added a Smoked Streaky Bacon flavour to their range - if not, as yet, to their annoyingly animated website.

Comment: this isn't a new flavour - it's been around for quite a while - it's one of my favourites actually. I think the bag's changed though, they used to be part of an exotic range - "mediterranean" maybe? I didn't think they'd be able to get the red pepper flavour properly on a crisp (or "chip") but it does what it says on the tin. really really yummy

Comment: The Smoked Streaky Bacon flavour Burt's crisps have a 6 paragraph story on the back of the packets all about how they made the crisps and the bacon flavour, and how proud they are that actual REAL bacon is used as opposed to the chemical flavourings every other bacon crisp is made of. Although they didn't taste much different to me, they did smell more like a bag of pork scatchings than a packet of bacon crisps.

Comment: It's sort of new as the packaging has changed, but it's the same flavour and it's moved from Kettle Mediterranean which they no longer do, to the core range. This flavour is currently exclusive to Sainsbury - that's what the Kettle website says!

Comment: cheers for the Burts update, "MHS" - does the packet mention the product's alleged anti-flatulence properties?

http://transns.workopolis.com/ [URL display truncated]

An English potato-chip maker, Burts, reports it has developed the first bacon-flavoured chips that do not cause flatulence. After "extensive research," the company discovered that such chips often cause wind, but by substituting real pig-meat flavouring for the artificial variety, its Smoked Streaky Bacon chips are "wind free."

Comment: Theres's no mention of blowing off on the packet, but I imagine the pigs, from Denhay farm in Dorset, would be pleased to know that if it were true. Burts crisps [I refuse to csll them chips] are available in most Co-op stores across the Westcountry, as well as of course just about every single shop in their hometown of Kingsbridge. 58048 4
