Click pic to view comments - Semi-international sighting: Nestle Joe Crunch/ Joe Yoghurt Delight Semi-international sighting: Nestle Joe Crunch/ Joe Yoghurt Delight
Posted: 14:41 Mon 16-Jan-2006. Price: 29p/ 9p. Location: Pound store, Newcastle; Home Bargains, Crossgates. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
"Phillerena" reports: This chocolate bar from Nestle Romania was mysteriously discovered in the murky depths of Newcastle. It tastes very similar to a Blue Riband to me, although my friend says it tastes like Guylian and Ferrero Rocher! I'm not convinced. The chocolate tasted cheap and horrible, like many Nestle bars. The best way I can describe this bar is a Blue Riband with bits of crispy rice in it (like Toffee Crisp) - not a nice combo! Still it's nice to see foreign oddities winding their way across the waters...

...a sentiment underlined when "Phillerena" went on to discover this Nestle Joe Yoghurt Delight at a separate location, enthusing: These remind me of 4 finger Kitkats, minus the chocolate. You get 4 wafers per pack, the same sort as used in Blue Riband, only they aren't coated in chocolate. They have a strawberry yoghurt filling which is very delicious. A shame Nestle have never thought of selling them officially over here as they are very nice. They are made in Romania, and at only 9p per pack, a real bargain.

Comment: I like the sound of the yoghurt thing but the other one sounds foul. But most things are cheaper in the old Soviet bloc...

Comment: My local pound shop are now selling BOXES of these Joe Yoghurt Delights for just £1, and they are in date too! There are also apple flavour and apricot flavour wafers. I have got a couple of boxes in my spare room, they're those type of boxes used in shops where you lift the flap with the name on behind the box.

Comment: Joe Crunch is a monster of a wafer bar. I found some of these from my trusty 'delboy' market trader. It is like going to an exhibition of the world's most obscure chocolate.

I once had a bag of 'Sweet Tarts' bunnies that were like jelly fruit things for easter that were made in the Czech Republic for export to the USA. Also some Nestle 'Galak' bars - the Benelux Milkybar (do they have the Galak kid there?). Usually a good selection of Swiss Milka bars, Cadbury's export chocolate (including almond dairy milk).

It's also a dumping ground for failed new product launches such as polo liquid orbs and they still had some Mars midnight bars last time I went!

Comment: Sounds like heaven. Ive had Galak before too, has a different taste to the Milkybar we are used to. Actually just yesterday I had a foreign Cadbury Flake, which wasnt as scrummy as the UK version. 13459 5

Comment: I studied in Romania for a bit and was very familiar with the Nestle Joes. They are so popular and have a much wider variety than what you have found in the UK. Honestly, they are not the best quality, but they is is fun to find them somewhwere other than Romania.
