Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Pringles Light Aromas Confirmed sighting: Pringles Light Aromas
Posted: 13:13 Wed 18-Jan-2006. Price: 99p. Location: Wilkinsons, Plymouth. Sub-flavours: See below. Nutritional unusualness: 33% less fat than regular Pringles (down to 24g per 100g, from 36g per 100g).
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: Another 3 new flavours of Pringles have hit the supermarket shelves. But of course these are new good-for-you reduced fat Pringles Light Aromas so you don't feel so guilty eating a whole tube in one sitting. In fact the actual Pringles inside the tubes are much smaller than a usual Pringle - so you only get 160g of crisps per tube instead of the regular 200g. That should be accompanied by a lesser price of course, so try not to let yourself be ripped off by shops charging the same price as the regular heavier tubes. There are three different flavours to look out for although all the tubes are predominantly purple. Spicy Thai with a touch of Coconut Oil tasted quite strongly of the coconut with only a very mild spicy aftertaste. Greek Style Cheese with a touch of Avocado Oil does have a pleasingly mild feta cheese-like flavour, and was my favourite of the three. Lastly you have Red Pepper with a touch of Olive Extract, which has a nice burnt pepper taste with lots of orange powder on each crisp.

...There's not much I can add to this triumphant return to "Magnetic Ham Sandwich's" traditional stomping-ground, except for "MHS's" enigmatic postscript: There was no way I could get all 3 tubes into my scanner at once, so you've got a picture of a hamster in a tube instead.

Comment: Hamsters love scampering about in old toilet roll tubes. But they forget that as they grow bigger, the tubes stay the same size. Maybe that's a metaphor for the seeming shrinking of snacks like Wagon Wheels, Curly-Wurlys and Creme Eggs in the modern world compared to the more innocent 1970s. Either way - every shop I've seen these new Pringles in has been selling them at the same price as regular Pringles tubes [which of course contain a much greater weight of crisps inside] just because the tubes are the same size as the other flavours. The previously available Original flavour of Pringles Lights have just been re-packaged in similer style mainly purple tubes too by the way.

Comment: I find Pringles Spicy Thai really tasty, 'cause I love the aroma of ginger. I don't like the idea of eating dehydrated false "potatoes" though. That's why I want to learn how I can make chips of REAL POTATOES, but smelling the same way like Pringles Spicy Thai do... Any ideas, anyone?... Do you know what kind of spices exactly do they use, except ginger?... Please let me know at kim.vassy (at!) gmail.com THANKS!!
