Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Kettle Crispy Bakes Confirmed sighting: Kettle Crispy Bakes
Posted: 10:16 Mon 30-Jan-2006. Price: 0.29p/ 24g bag. Location: Sainsbury's, Solihull; Sainsbury's Plymouth. Sub-flavours: Korma (coconut, ginger and coriander); Tomato with basil and green peppercorns; Mild cheese with sweet onion. Nutritional unusualness: "Less than 100 calories, 10% fat, 1/2 g of salt" per bag.
"jack" reports: New development. Not fried, but baked and using lentil flour. Very tasty.

..."jack" just got in first with these (but didn't even mention the authentically lentil-y aftertaste!) - fortunately "Magnetic Ham Sandwich" was on hand to fill in the following details: There's three different tasty flavours of the newest product from Kettle Chips - called Kettle Crispy Bakes. Of the three, Tomato with basil was my favourite, having a lovely herby tang. The other two flavours are Korma, which was mild and smooth, and Mild cheese and sweet onion, which uses the very distinctive flavour of Double Gloucester Cheese to good effect. The rustic looking packets are small by Kettle Chips' normal standards at just 24g, but this does means they are roughly the same size as their competitors in the rapidly growing healthy snack market, such as Snack-a-Jacks and the Go Ahead range. They're made from a blend of lentil flour and potato starch into little tubes just the same shape as Penne Pasta, which is a good idea as allows the flavour powder to get into the inside AND outside of each Crispy Bake, making for a very tasty and surprisingly filling snack.

Comment: I dunno there seems to be a new flavour of crisps out every day. Reminds me of the neverending Kitkat flavour saga.

Comment: Found these at the weekend and have had three packets since, they're super tasty. The tomato and basil ones are suitable for vegans too. These are so much better than something like snack a jacks that seem to have no substance.

Comment: Thats cuz snack a jacks are healthier (made from puffed rice, like rice cakes).

Comment: Lentils? Sounds bad to me. I can't stand that pasty texture. And this comes from the company whose idea of deluxe crisps is to craft them into hardened shapes that guarantee oral injury.

Comment: I must say the lentils put me off too, but they are actually really nice and worth trying, especially good are the tomato ones.

Comment: These are very nice- the lentil flavour is very notable, but they do taste good - I can imagine the flavour's a love-or-hate thing, though. The korma flavour was quite realistic, although I was a but disappointed when I ran out so quickly, given the price!

Comment: I love these crisps - they are really light at only 1.5 weight watchers points a pack! I like the korma flavour ones, which are such a treat as I have had to steer clear of curry (especially korma!) on my diet. These bakes are excellent! Only problem is that I can only get them in Sainsbury's.

Comment: no, don't look at the ingredients - lentils - as these are very nice for a low fat snack 50269 8 85
