Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Moments Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Moments
Posted: 22:14 Fri 07-Apr-2006. Price: 99p for between 6-9 biscuits (depending on variety). Location: Sainsbury's, Finchley Road, London. Sub-flavours: Chocolate Fruit and Nut Caramel Shortcake (tested); Triple Chocolate Cookie (tested); Chocolate Viennese Melt; Chocolate Toffee Crunch. Nutritional unusualness: As much as 20%-41% "Belgian" milk chocolate.
Snackspot reports: You'd naturally assume these were an attack on boring old Boasters, but then you realise that they're both made by McVitie's - so presumably it's more like an attempt to lure chocolate addicts towards a more "upmarket" brand, then hike up the price by around 30p. There's no denying that the two types I've tried already were pretty chocolatey - the Triple Chocolate Cookies even having a thin layer covering the base - but, even though it claims to be "Belgian", the chocolate's still not as nice as, say, Fox's or Cadbury's

... ...or for that matter, these Fabulous Bakin' Boys Choc On Top Flapjacks (99p for 4 x 85g, Tesco), which nonetheless serve up a terrifying 27g sugar and nearly 20g fat per bar (McVitie's Moments are more like 7-9g sugar, 6g fat per biscuit). Not even Mr Kipling - with his dedication to "excess" in all things - can cram as much sugar and fat into his Exceedingly Good Milk Chocolate And Pecan Brownies (1.39 for 4, Sainsbury's), though intriguingly he packages his "Less than 10% fat" Delightful Chocolate Slices (1.09 for 6) in pairs - presumably so that, after polishing off your first (9.6g sugar and 2.3g fat) bar, you figure: now why not treat yourself to the other one?

Comment: I think McVities chocolate is perfectly suited to their biscuits, whereas Cadbury's doesn't seem to translate very well. Cadbury's is perfect on its own but doesnt work on biscuits (apart from Cadbury Fingers). Sweeter chocolate such as what Fox's and McVitie's use is the best.

Comment: Hmm, wasn't too impressed with these. I tried the Chocolate Toffee Crunch variety, and was rather disappointed.

Comment: The fruit and nut caramel ones are nice. But I would never pay 1.30 for a pack. 20038

Comment: I recently bought 2 packs of the Caramel and nut ones for 1 pound from Jack Fulton, which isn't a bad price. 7 9
