Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: New Covent Garden Fresh And Natural Porridge Confirmed sighting: New Covent Garden Fresh And Natural Porridge
Posted: 17:02 Tue 11-Apr-2006. Price: 99p/ 200g tub. Location: Waitrose, Finchley Road, London. Sub-flavours: Honey; Original. Nutritional unusualness: (Honey variety) 7.7g sugar per 100g, 15.4g per serving.
Snackspot reports: Upmarket soup makers New Covent Garden Food Co. appear to have ditched their recent foray into smoothie-style juices, but have channeled their spare pulping energy into producing microwaveable plastic tubs of modern-day "miracle food" porridge (plus three "heat and serve" risottos). For the additional cost, they're slightly more palatable (and lower in sugar?) than most of the powdered alternatives, though also suffered from the nowadays seemingly inevitable flaw of overflowing inside my microwave (your mileage may vary, as the light inside my oven doesn't work, possibly an intermediate step towards converting it into a proper Unnovations MarriedBliss Microcook - "the world's most moving kitchen appliance").

...In other pudding peculiarities, I couldn't spot any reference to them in the archive, but Nestle Cafe Monde desserts have just reappeared in Liverpool St Tesco (99p/ pack of 2 x 100g, in chocolate, coffee or strawberry, currently buy one get one free). Nor was I too impressed by the new Cornetto Caramel, but did enjoy this magnificent example of our old friend misplaced internal publicity, here alerting potential purchasers to the "new pack designs" intended to "seduce current and new Magnum lovers", plus the product's irresistible "Massive support package - 6.5 million behind the core".

Comment: Cornetto Caramels are gorgeous, I first had some in Germany a few years back. Nice to see it over here at last. Ive tried those Nesle dessert things and found them boring, the most interesting thing was the cream topping.
