Confirmed sighting: KP Large Roasted Peanuts - Cracked Black Pepper Flavour/ Jack and Ollies Hand-Cooked Sea Salted Crisps
Posted: 20:44 Tue 18-Apr-2006. Price: 49p. Location: Metronews, Oxford Road, Manchester. Sub-flavours: Mild Indian Spices; Vine Ripened Tomato. Nutritional unusualness: 14.7g protein, 5.7g carbohydrate, 24.2g fat, 3.15g fibre, 0.25g sodium [per 100g, presumably].
"Alistair Sawyerr" reports: Interesting combination, slightly disappointing
- not enough black pepper to really flavour the peanut. However there is a peppery tang to them, maybe a little too much salt, would have been good to see more pepper and less salt.
...And welcome to first-time spotter "Alistair Sawyerr", with a product that seems to date back to at least the Christmas before last. Still, any excuse to mention "Vivazol Virgin's" unillustrated sighting of
Jack and Ollies Hand-Cooked Sea Salted Crisps (£1.56 for 150g, ASDA Bedminster, also available in Sea Salt and Cracked Black Pepper, or Gorgonzola and Red Onion), which: Come in a purposefully overinflated pack to help prevent damage to the contents. Upon opening them for the first time, the sweet smell of potato smacked my palate, and and still hasn't left it yet. These are of the jacket variety, plain otherwise, and, according to the packaging: "We have worked very hard to bring you these delicious potato chips. Hand picked at dawn, only the most superior potatoes pass stringent quality control procedures, [and] are precision sliced with the latest laser guided techno cutters before being individually fried in finest grade sunflower oil accompanied by relaxing orchestral music then lovingly dried on the laps of beautiful and exotic maidens before being flown directly to their destination by private jet... Well, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but we do hope you will enjoy these top quality hand made potato chips... and that's the truth!"
Clearly, they also have a sense of humour. =)
