Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Fox's Bistros Confirmed sighting: Fox's Bistros
Posted: 16:42 Thu 20-Apr-2006. Price: Usually about 1.39 per pack . Location: Sainsbury's, Finchley Road, London. Sub-flavours: Caramelised Spanish Red Onion and a Hint of Garlic Baguettinis; Italian Cheese and Caramelised Red Onion Tostinis; Vine Ripened Spanish Tomato and a Hint of Sweet Chilli Mini Tostinis. Nutritional unusualness: "Bursting with Mediterranean Sunshine - Oven Baked with Olive Oil and Love".
Snackspot reports: Just a quick round-up of this new range (because the description's taken up so much room) - the Baguettinis weren't bad at all (very reminiscent of Snack-a-Jacks Oven Baked Mini Breadsticks), but the real stars are the (full-size) Italian Cheese and Caramelised Red Onion Tostinis, which are like a subtly Italian-flavoured version of Jacob's Cream Crackers. None of which makes up for the jaw-dropping disappointment of the Mini Tostinis, however, which were so cardboard-like it took me a number of social occasions (and, in one extreme situation, "camouflaging" them with other biscuit products) to dispose of all 5 mini-packets.

...Still, these make a bit more sense than Fox's previous Real Orange Marmalade Wholemeal Crackers - a "delicious savoury biscuit" that didn't seem to go with anything (except, perhaps, more marmalade?). And, elsewhere, United Biscuits have decided they need a controversial apostrophe in the name of their new "bite-sized cheese biscuits with a light and flaky texture, topped with cheese sprinkles", Mini Cheddars Morso's (out now, 150g bag for about 1.29).

Comment: i don't think moresos actually have an apostrophe on the bag... they were very disappointing anyway. the sweet garlic ones were the best flavour we tried.

Comment: Regarding the Nutritional Unusualness...does anyone actually want to eat baguettes bakes in somebody's love?

Comment: just found a bit more info about these: there claim to be six "mouth-watering flavours" of Fox's Bistros, though "Mediterranean Sea Salt and Black Pepper Tostinis" are the only other ones I could spot in the press ad...

and the Wholemeal Crackers are also available in Smoked Hickory; Sundried Tomato and Red Pepper; Double Cheese and Caramelised Red Onion; and "Original" (and are "aimed at women over 30 and are wrapped for out-of-home consumption")

Comment: When will people learn that the suffix -i in Italian *already* denotes a plural? Thus: baguettini, not baguettinis, tostini, not tostinis, and while we're at it, panini, not paninis.

Ooh, I feel better now.

Comment: I'm almost disappointed they didn't add an apostrophe to the end of "baguettini's" :)

Comment: I've recently eaten two bags of "Vine Ripened Spanish Tomato and a Hint of Sweet Chilli Mini Tostinis" that i got from tesco in a bogof deal.

They are small packets of mini cheddar type biscuits(but much crunchier) within a large bag, They didn't smell particularly aromatic, strangely smelling of gravy granules??

They are very munchable and taste pleasant enough, although nothing special, I enjoyed them but I wouldn't buy them absent of a bogof deal as they are overpriced at full price.

I think the idea behind these is to capture or create the "posh" mini cheddars market just like Walkers made sensations crisps and McCoys made McCoys specials crisps and tortillas. 9824 0 85
