Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Really Light Ribena Strawberry/ Really Light Ribena Blueberry Confirmed sighting: Really Light Ribena Strawberry/ Really Light Ribena Blueberry
Posted: 22:13 Wed 10-May-2006. Price: 47p for 288ml carton. Location: Costcutter, East Yorkshire. Nutritional unusualness: (Strawberry) Rich in Vitamin C and "Friendly to teeth".
"GTO" reports: Spotted this "New" variant on that childhood favourite Ribena on pillaging the fridge in my local Costcutter, and what a find! Ribena seem to be going the way of Innocent, throwing around casual labelling, drawing arrows to the Nutritional Information and writing "Sciency bit" in an attempt to be cutesy. But trust me, the taste more than makes up for it. The taste is extremely light and refreshing with absolutely no nasty sweetener aftertaste. Assuming you're a classic sweet lover, you will adore this one as I did, as it tastes EXACTLY like Strawberry flavour Chewits - highly recommended.

...I'm not sure what "GTO" has found here, as the new Ribena is supposed to be Really Light Blueberry [pictured], a foul concoction cutting the supposed "super fruit" with the acrid aftertaste of aspartame *and* acesulfame K. Sadly, no information was provided on what remaining percentage of "all the UK's blackcurrants" makes up Pepsi's bland Tropicana Go! (1.49/ 4 x 200ml bottles, in Blackcurrant and Apple, or Orange and Pear), though older fruit fans can look forward to the post-World Cup debut of Foster's Twist "Foster's lager brewed with citrus hops to add a subtle taste of lime".

Comment: I'm positively sure the Really light Strawberry variant is a new addition. It did have a little "New" bade on it.

Comment: I bought blueberry Ribena light from my local supermarket - blueberries are my favorite fruit, and I love regular Ribena. Just disgusting, I couldn't even finish the bottle. Its oddly thicked with some form of starch, and has a particularly strong flavour of unpleasant metalicky atrificial sweetener. Avoid.

Comment: I thought it could get no worse until I tried the blackcurrant Ribena Really Light - it bears very little resemblance to regular Ribena with a revolting taste and an offputting brownish colour. 90734 5 85
