Posted: 16:18 Mon 22-May-2006. Price: about 20p. Location: Costcutter, Prince Of Wales Road, Kentish Town. Nutritional unusualness: None noted.
Snackspot reports: Really this is just catching up with a couple of previous mentions from "Sandy" and "be" - these are (as if you hadn't guessed), ordinary Happy Hippos with a more chocolatey sauce inside. But, in a blind taste-test, I'm really not convinced that I could tell the difference between them and their "plain" counterparts...

...and much the same applies to the Cadbury Choc Brownie Flavour Biscuits formerly alluded to in passing by "Phillerena" (1.05/ 300g, Waitrose), which seem to be brown-coloured chocolate digestives. Expect fewer choc-based launches as we move into the "summer" season here in the UK, though The Grocer magazine still offers some hope in the form of frozen Rolo and Toffee Crisp branded doughnuts from Bakemark (apparently makers of those Nestle Rolo Cookies etc), while Swedish cake-makers Almondy are venturing out of Ikea stores with a range of four frozen "tarta" desserts, enthusiastically capitalised on their own site as "ALMONDY Almond Cake, ALMONDY Chocolate Almond Cake, the new ALMONDY Almond Cake with SNICKERS, and ALMONDY Almond Cake with DAIM" (approx 3.49).

Comment: I believe I have seen afore mentioned donuts in my local ASDA. They were not frozen, they were in the bakery aisle with the other donuts.

Comment: you're kidding that you can't tell the difference between these and normal happy hippos?! these taste like a jar and a half of full cream nutella in each one. deadly yet delicious...

Comment: ah, yeah, fair point "charl", I must admit I'm not incredibly familiar with the original version :)

on a different note, however - has anyone else heard what appears to be Alexei Sayle doing the voiceover for the TV ad for these? Thatcher's Britain, eh?
