Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Asda World Cup Winners Hand Cooked Crisps Confirmed sighting: Asda World Cup Winners Hand Cooked Crisps
Posted: 10:07 Fri 09-Jun-2006. Price: 1. Location: Asda Plymouth. Sub-flavours: See below. Nutritional unusualness: 42g fat per 150g bag.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: We already know there's no better combination in the world than football and crisps - washed down with a tasty beverage of your choice of course - and so Asda have come up with the perfect answer to your World Cup snack needs with the launch of 6 different flavours of World Cup Winners Crisps - one for each country to have lifted the World Cup. Although it's bad news if you're a Uruguay fan because they've been left out of the party presumeably because Asda couldn't think of an appropriate flavour for that country. Famously back in 1994 Loaded magazine ran a "world cup of crisps" (Real McCoy's Chilli just beat Walkers Cream Cheese and Chive for the record - although there was some cheating going on in the semi finals) but since then we've had to make do with the occasional appearance of Lineker or Owen on a packet of Walkers for our crisp/ World Cup fix. But now Asda have come up with some real winners just in time for this year's feast of football...

...It's a spot of "two halves", Brian - please don't hesitate to View comments for our commentator's full pre-match analysis. And, while you're here, "MHS", have you had a chance to try these (Parmigiano Reggiano and Black Pepper, Aged Modena Balsamic Vinegar, Sea Salt and Basil, or Norfolk Honey Barbecue) Kettle Kitchen "hand cooked chips with selected availability"?

Comment: You can choose from:

Argentinian Beef flavour - which has a nice beefy taste;

Brazilian Salsa flavour - which was disappointingly tame especially when compared to the football team;

English Vindaloo flavour - which doesn't taste of anything much;

French Frogs Legs and Garlic flavour - which is the best of the lot having a fantastic garlic, cheese and lemon taste;

German Sausage flavour - which taste of mustard and onions (and could I detect a hint of sour grapes in there also ??);

and Italian Arrabiata flavour - which is a very nice Mediterranean tasting combination of garlic, tomato and chilli.

All the bags are big value too, being 150g in size for just £1, but some of the crisps suffer from the same problem you always get with hand cooked crisps - ie most of the crisps are too curly and crunchy to get in your mouth properly.

Comment: I thought that frogs legs were supposed to taste like chicken actually. But on the other hand, this is just what I have been told as I have no desire to eat any part of a frog. Anyone actually tasted REAL frogs legs?

Comment: The French Frogs Legs And Garlic flavour are really nice obviously the "Frogs Leg" bit is a wind up but its a good novelty. The German Sausage ones are really disappointing but the Italian Arrabiata ones are delicious i bought them when i read Magnetic Ham Sandwich's description

Comment: Yeeeeessssssss!!!!! England are OUT of the World Cup, and so are Brazil, Vive le Francais! Vive le Portugal! I hate England, you got what you deserve - defeat and humiliation, Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal are CHAMPIONS!!

Comment: Every post I've read has been tainted with obnoxiousness from you, polarbear! Cheer up, you might enjoy life! The Italian ones - boss. Why Vindaloo for the English crisps - surely a nice lancashire hot pot would have sufficed??

Comment: "I might enjoy life" Ha! I do enjoy my life idiot, I Hate England, nothing obnoxious about that, it's a fact, You got something of what you deserve for invading Iraq and Afghanistan and murdering thousands of innocent people, So, the thing that you English desire, the thing that really matters to you, Football, The World Cup, you were denied, you were deprived of, and i hope the innocent victims of this illegal war know that you, who take football so seriously, are losers and are DEFEATED [DELETED]

Comment: Hands up who actually enjoys polarbear's always helpful snack-related comments on this site ??

Anyway - these crisps are now 2 for £1.50 at Asda so I took a packet each of France and Italy into work today to see if the crisps could somehow predict the result of the final this Sunday. Several ladies refused to even taste the France bag though due to the implied prescence of Frogs Legs, no matter how hard I tried to convince them it was just garlic and lemon really. After extensive tasting of both flavours by everyone in the office it was decided that Italy would be the clear World Cup winners by 8-3.

THE CRISPS HAVE SPOKEN.

Comment: Magnetic Ham Sandwich, I was replying to that tit-for-brains' comment, And i usually do give helpful snack-related comments on this site so don't try making out like i don't.

Countless people post non-snack related posts on snackspot anyway, and just to be clear, sport is sport, There's actually no need to frustrate England fans by rubbing in England's World Cup defeat, and actually, I think Joe Cole's goal deserves Goal of the Tournament.

Comment: Late Show with David Letterman, A classic, morons choice of tv viewing, Polarbears have plenty of friends, and do you think that has any relevance to my chosen alias? Go easy on that bag of cheesy puffs while you're watching Letterman, or who knows, your other brain cell might transform into a cheesy wotsit :)
