Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Seasonal Edition Camembert and Plum
Posted: 19:16 Tue 24-Oct-2006. Price: £1.35/ 150g bag (buy 2, save 50p). Location: Sainsbury's, London Finchley Road. Sub-flavours: Apple, Sage and Thyme. Nutritional unusualness: 9-10g fat (1.1-1.4g saturates) per 40g serving.
Snackspot
reports: "Trust us it's Good!" and "Come on, it's Christmas, suspend your cynicism and give it a try!" pleads the Camembert and Plum packet defensively, so it's almost a let-down when you can hardly taste the plum at all. The Apple, Sage and Thyme flavour is, at least, a bit different to their usual "luxury cheese" effect - the impression is more like mild chicken crisps (presumably due to the sage and thyme), though they do leave a convincingly sour fruity residue on your fingers afterwards.
...Kettle Chips are apparently also dusting down their White Stilton and Apricot variety for Christmas, plus the ever-elusive Mature Cheddar
with Adnams
Broadside Beer - but, for the moment, "Peter Murray" seems satisfied with the McCoy's Pub Grub Multipack going for 2 for £2 in Tesco, Warfield, praising its Ploughman's Cheese and Pickle/
Cumberland Sausage and Onion Gravy/
Yorkshire Steak and Ale Pie selection as: A good addition to the range, has certainly livened up my lunchtime - how about Chicken in a Basket next?

Comment: Also in Sainsbury's is one of their own brand crisps for Christmas, Baked Ham and Chutney - lovely on the ham we thought! The Camembert ones you can only get in Sainsbury's it would seem..... so I'm off their for mine, as I love this one. FM.

Comment: What is this Major Cheese Fetish that kettlefoods have got?
Double Gloucester - Mature Cheddar - Wensleydale - White Stilton - Buffalo Mozzarella - Blue Stilton - Camembert
This is a clear case of Cheese Fetishism
and the list goes on...

Comment: The Cheddar Cheese & Adnams Beer variety were a Summer seasonal edition seemingly only on sale at Tescos, so will be disappearing any day now as we get closer to Christmas. But there's another seasonal edition for the Winter months in addition to those mentioned above - Sun Dried Tomato & Sweet Red Pepper. A lovely variety full of flavour that you can get at Sainsburys. The Apple, Sage & Thyme was available as a limited edition about 2 years ago under the Marks & Spencer brand. I'm still not convinced it's a go-er though.
On the subject of Christmas crisps though, does anyone know why there seems to be no Walkers Roast Turkey & Paxo Stuffing flavour this year? Maybe their branding deal with Paxo was only for 2 years. Remember last year they also had Roast Turkey & Bacon flavour on sale for a while - but nothing this year.

Comment: The Apple, Sage and Thyme is a different flavour to that seen on M+S two years ago - so much more apple'y.
