Click pic to view comments - International sighting: Kinder Bueno White International sighting: Kinder Bueno White
Posted: 13:22 Tue 28-Nov-2006. Price: 1 Euro. Location: Gare Du Nord metro station, Paris. Nutritional unusualness: "Avec chocolat blanc et pepites meringuees au cacao, cacao maigre (0.5%)".
"charl" reports: If you love Kinder Happy Hippos, but are too ashamed to be seen eating them in public because you are a career-minded professional, then worry no longer! This is a lot like the original Happy Hippo, only without nostrils. The filling is identical to that of a classic Bueno and the white chocolate coating is undetectable, so the real winners are the little meringue and cocoa pieces encrusted around the base of each bar. Very nice, but not an improvement on the classic Bueno, in my humble opinion. It does have a great diagram of the constituent parts (and their purposes) on the back though, which I'm not sure the regular ones do.

...Meanwhile, in somewhat closer-to-home soft-centres: McVitie's Mars Muffin and Mini Rolls are very much as you'd expect (Muffin 88p in Tesco, Mini Rolls 1.09 for 6 in Sainsbury), but the most interesting thing about Pancake Pods-alikes Kingsmill Flippitz (in chocolate or strawberry, 1.19 for 5, Sainsbury) has to be the dubiously fashionable use of a "z" in their name, if not quite on the same scale as Zurich Financial Services's toe-curling "Because change happenz" ad campaign.

Comment: They have these as standard beside the milk chocolate ones in Australia. They are much better in my opinion, and I didn't think Bueno's could get any better!

Comment: As white chocolate has no cocoa solids from the chocolate liquor, the FDA of America doesn't classify it as chocolate. Cheap imitation.

Comment: Where did Hersheys come into all this?

Anyway regarding the White Bueno I wasnt all that impressed when I reviewed a free sample of it that Ferrero sent me a few months back --> http://www.chocolatemission.net/2008/04/april-3rd-kinder-bueno-white.html dont get me wrong its a great bar...just very little different to the milk choc version!

While on the topic of Kinder does anyone remember a product called the Kinder milk Slice? I believe they used to be distributed in the UK but arent anymore!? I got some imported from Germany and absolutely loved them http://www.chocolatemission.net/2008/05/may-11th-kinder-milk-slice.html delicious! Anyone remember these puppys?

Comment: In a word - no. im passing reasonable judgement on the relevant items + most the time giving people an indication of where to buy them and the price. It offends you posting my site up simply dont click - on it! Simple really.

Comment: fair point "grotbag", it does seem a bit relentless - but compared to the Chocolate Review forums, I think he's letting us off lightly :) http://www.chocolatereview.co.uk/chocforum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5269&PN=1

Comment: Jim, you do realise crisps are much better than chocolate, don't you ?? Why not start up a crisps website for all the crisps fans out there?
Posted: 09:29 Tue 13-May-2008 by "Jim" # permalink comment
Comment: MHS - I think I will leave that to someone else...running the one one site is hard enough updating...plus I think I would put myself in pretty good contention for the Sumo Wrestling at the Olympics 2012 if I did crisps aswell.

Snackspot - apologies if my posts were seen as spamming I will endeavour to keep them clean from now on - i wouldnt like someone else doing that on my site - apologies.

Regarding the Kinder Bueno White they are now avalible in Asda at 42p!!

Comment: no worries Jim, it's a fine line sometimes - I don't think anyone would object to you regularly signing yourself as

"Jim http://www.chocolatemission.net/2008/04/april-3rd-kinder-bueno-white.html"

or anything like that, and actually the Kinder Milk slice post is kind of interesting (and seems a bit like the Nestle Nesquik Snack http://snackspot.org.uk/thread.php?story=0405281129sbc - haha you've got me doing it now :)

Posted: 11:51 Wed 14-May-2008 by "Jim" # permalink comment
Comment: SS - I was talking to someone from Germany about the Kinder Slice the other day and they pointed me in the direction of that Nesquick Snack (they still have it over there).

By the looks of it we obviously had it circa 2004...why oh why were these taken away from us!? They are blatantly made with some awfully cheap ingredients but they are awfully addictive.

I've linked Snackspot from my site just in case someone stumbles across mine before. Hope thats cool.

p.s. I dont know if anyone is thinking the same but is it me or has the launch of the Kinder White been an absolute flop thus far!? In all the places I see it they seem to have boxes and boxes of them just littering the store (woolworths especially!) would be really intresting to see the sales figures!

Comment: Had it today. It's not very white is it? I'd have much preferred the wafer shell to be covered in proper chocolate whatever it's colour.

Comment: I LOVE THESE! I hardly ever say that about anything without a soul but seriously... I adore them. I never thought that Kinder could top the Bueno but holy mince... this is too good. I love white chocolate so it's amazing for me. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea but I do hope they're here to stay. Mmmm.

Comment: I think the Kinder Bueno White bars are horrible. The flaked chocolate stuck to the bottom makes them feel "hairy!" Will stick to the normal ones.
