Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: McCoy's Limited Edition Pub Grub Ploughman's Cheese And Pickle flavour Confirmed sighting: McCoy's Limited Edition Pub Grub Ploughman's Cheese And Pickle flavour
Posted: 18:47 Tue 19-Dec-2006. Price: 50p. Location: Petrol station on London Road, Glasgow. Sub-flavours: Cumberland Sausage and Onion Gravy; Yorkshire Steak and Ale Pie. Nutritional unusualness: Ingredients include "Ground spice (black pepper, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove)".
"P McD" reports: I'm a big fan of McCoy's, and although I'm always a bit dubious about their limited edition flavours, I have to say that these were actually really tasty. A bit like the Branston flavour Mini Cheddars, but with a nice strong cheesy flavour going on in the background to offset the sweetness of the pickle. I didn't see any of the other flavours on sale yet, but suffice to say, I will be keeping my eyes peeled!

...A bit more info on this previously rumoured brand extension, neglecting only to mention that the spices make this one taste more like a cross between "pickle" and a mince pie. In somewhat less-topical crispiness: "I Almost Had A Heart attack!" gasped "Fintan Stack", before semi-clarifying, "I was at Pinnacle's stores in North Wales when I rummaged to the back of Prawn Cocktail crisps dated Jan 07. Then I saw Some Purple And I Thought it was Spicy Chilli. Imagine how I felt when I Saw Walkers Worcester Sauce, Best Before 08-05-04!!! I Was Absolutely Astonished And Thrilled And Surprised! What Happened to SUDAN 1. Without Hesitation, I bought it and explained. He said he'd never noticed it! Scandolous!" [capitalisation spotter's own], while "Susan Malloy" says she's uncovered Tudor Limited Edition Chocolate Crisps in "My house, County Durham", and is "looking to sell these antique crisps which date back to 1991! They have been in the family long enough - anyone know a buyer out there?"

Comment: I agree cheese n pickle crisps DO NOT WORK. They didnt for Asda's own great british flavours (variety supermarket packets)nor for Walkers when they tried it with great british flavours Branston Pickle Yuk!

I try and taste whatever new flavours McCoy throw out at us in their variety packets but of late I have not succumbed to enjoying any of the new meaty/pub grub specials at all. I dont even like their ribbed/tortillas either. they just seem boring and dont seem to work for me and i just dont know why!! I used to like their 'szzling chinese beef' pinky/purpley packet but they were hard to come across and I had to buy the other dire flavours in the maxi pak to get at 'em and then give the ones i didnt like away! I think even their Salt n vin flavour has lost its kick too! Sort of like a dusty taste to em!...

Comment: I notice McCoys have just revamped their packaging to a more modern bolder looking style - and the packs now proudly state '30% less Sat Fat' at the top, so now they're better for you than previously.

Comment: Years ago McCoys ran a flavour called Spicy Gammon Steak whihc were amazing but as per when you contact em and ask em where they sell em and if they are going to in the future they deny all knowledge!! poor show for crisps lovers i say...

Comment: McCoys have given names to their rebranded 6 bag multipacks now, seemingly copying Walkers with their 'Meaty' or 'Standard' varieties. McCoys give you a choice of...

Classic - 2 each of Salt & Vinegar, Salted, Cheddar & Onion

Meaty - 2 each of Flame Grilled Steak, Barbecue Chicken, Roast Ham & Mustard

Tex Mex - 2 each of Spicy Buffalo Wings, Mexican Chilli, Texan BBQ Ribs

and for a limited time only there's the new...

Jackets - 2 each of Beef Chilli, Sour Cream & Chive, Melted Cheese & Bacon

...and they seem to be on BOGOF in most supermarkets right now too.

Comment: Has anyone tried the Confit of Foie Gras and Balsamic Vinegar Chutney flavour crisps yet? No? That's because they don't actually exist but it's only a matter of time before Pretentious Crisps Ltd come up with another packet of bullshit for the discerning gullible moron. Please spare us names like 'Organic Oak Smoked Farmhouse Cheddar and Pan Fried Red Onion' - it's a packet of Cheese and Onion crisps for f* (at!) ks sake, not a restaurant starter.
