Click pic to view comments - Year in review: Product picks of 2006 Year in review: Product picks of 2006
Posted: 15:39 Fri 29-Dec-2006.
To celebrate another 12 months of scintillating sightings, I've asked some of Snackspot's top contributors for their favourite products of the year - first off, "Phillerena" takes us all the way back to January with the nomination: "I think I'll go for the Tiramisu Kitkat as I got quite fond of it after the initial disappointment."

...Feel free to comment if you agree, disagree or have other best (or worst) moments of your own - controversially, "Kit Kat calming down on the varieties (a bit)" was among "charl's" highlights, along with Diet-Coke-with-[flipping]-Cherry-at-last and the Cadbury Dairy Milk with Creme Egg bar. "I thought that crisps were quite disappointing this year," "charl" continued, "apart from Apple, Sage and Thyme Kettle Chips" - next year, she'd like to see "fewer stupid Special K varieties, sugar free Cherry 7Up, and proper American recipe Diet Cherry Coke", so who knows what she'll make of the news that both Diet Coke with Lemon and Diet Coke with Lime are to be "replaced by a single Citrus variant" over the next few months!

Comment: they are getting rid of diet coke with lime?!?!?!

i am going to cry.

2007 is *rubbish* already.

Comment: They're gonna replace it with a lemon and lime flavoured coke.

Comment: Sprite & Coke is it not?

Comment: they'd better get that citrus variant right, or there will be trouble. why couldn't they just get rid of diet coke with lemon? oh cruel world.

Comment: For me, Lindt Lindor Dark chocolate was the D-B product of the year.

Comment: anyway, snackspot, what were your favourites?!

Comment: Highlight of 2006, got to be the peanut butter chunky kit kat, very delictable!

Comment: Sorry I'm a bit late with my picks. I'd have to agree on KK Tiramisu as pick of the year (altho very close with CDM creme egg). Feels like '06 hasn't had as many interesting new products as previous years (perhaps that's just the lack of two dozen new kit kat varieties).

A personal highlight for me was pepsi max cino, I'm a diet coke person normally but I was pretty impressed. Mebbe we'll get Coke Blak in '07 and it'll be as good or better?

I'm also hopeful B+J's will have some clever new flavours - choc therapy was good but not very imaginative.

Comment: I'd agree with Grace, just eaten 2 of them - Yum!

Comment: Pepsi Cino was also good for me. It seems to be very hard to find these days!
Posted: 15:49 Sun 31-Dec-2006 by "Kaptain Korolev" # permalink comment
Comment: The Kaptain's product of the 2006s was the Coke Zero.

No longer must the Kaptain endure the post sugared tooth fur that comes with the sugared kola if he does not not want to suffer the awfulness of the diet Cokes.

Comment: hehe cheers for asking charl - I was considering doing another New Year's Day round-up, but I reckon it was a great year for beverages: not just the Coke Zero mentioned by The Kaptain, but also Schweppes Summer Punch, Mars Thick Shake and Douwe Egberts Cafe Switch (and only Adez and the new Ribena Lights really letting the side down). Quinn's "Fruit Made Alcohol" was interesting as well, despite a TV ad http://www.visit4info.com/ [URL display truncated]

oddly reminiscent of Dumbo's alcoholic hallucination "Pink Elephants On Parade" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVl317vqPGc

But, at the end of the day, I usually end up buying Sainsbury's Diet Ginger Beer (6 cans for about £1.09) - and I'm almost "addicted" to their anthropomorphic Dhansak as well! http://www.snackspot.org.uk/thread.php?story=0412022302fah#upcoming

Comment: interesting, thanks! sainsbury's should make some beanbag baby dhansak tie-ins. and hm, diet ginger beer. good tip. it was a year for diet ginger ale for me.
Posted: 19:43 Sun 07-Jan-2007 by Snackspot # permalink comment
Comment: yeah I think the ginger flavour stops you tasting any bitterness from the sweeteners (and also means they use almost half as much sugar again in the "full-fat" versions!)

oh and the other thing that Quinn's ad reminds me of is Arvind Palep's "Sixes Last" video for Alias: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmvwN1G08zc

(as much for my own future reference as anything :)
