Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Blackberry and Apple Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Blackberry and Apple
Posted: 18:54 Tue 06-Feb-2007. Price: 70p/ box of 12. Location: Sainsbury's, Finchley Road. Nutritional unusualness: "Only 1g fat per cake" - half of which is saturated, though.
Snackspot reports: I'm not sure if these are what "Doug" was referring to, when he wrote "Having always been a fan of McVitie's Jaffas I was, as you, can expect, very excited when I saw in my local co-op that there is a new range of 'high in saturated fat' Jaffa cakes that makes them very scrummy in my tummy. I heard from a friend that these were around but refused to believe it. Now I have seen them and am well impressed. Spread the word, Jaffa cakes are bigger and better than ever, and are here to stay... in my poorly stomach! UUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!"

...Anyway, the Blackberry and Apple variety is a bit of a disappointment (and tough to identify as containing either) - they're more like a (more cherry-flavoured?) Berry Blast, but aren't too bad straight out of the fridge though. In other non-orangey jollity, "Zeddy" paid just 52p for these Tesco Strawberry Jaffa Cakes in Glasgow, pointing out: When is a Jaffa not a Jaffa? When it is a strawberry! I have seen the blackcurrant and lemon and lime from McV's but never a strawberry. Quite nice but as well as strawberry juice, the ubiqitous apple juice is in the flavourings and I think you notice it.

Comment: I have tried these new jaffa cakes. The supposedly 'blackberry and apple' flavour of the jam doesn't taste at all nice with the dark chocolate. McVities need to think of things that complement dark chocolate, not just shove any old fruit in to create a new variety.

Comment: I really like these, they remind me of a blackberry and apple crumble
