Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Nestle Heaven Truffle bars/ Cadbury Bournville Deeply Dark Confirmed sighting: Nestle Heaven Truffle bars/ Cadbury Bournville Deeply Dark
Posted: 19:40 Wed 21-Feb-2007. Price: 1.45/ 1.15. Location: Tesco, Hamilton, Scotland/ Woolworths, East Kilbride. Sub-flavours: Milk, dark or hazelnut truffle/ Coffee.
A double helping from "Zeddy" today, first dismissing these possible re-incarnations of Nestle Double Chocolate/ Double Cream as: "Nestle trying to be posh! They taste quite nice but ALL varieties have hazelnuts in them. (What is it about the Europeans and their nuts?) Not as nice as Bendicks chocolate tablets though." Similar comparisons beset Cadbury's Bournville Deeply Dark [pictured], as "Zeddy" quips: "Have Cadbury been stealing Green and Black's recipes? (well they do own them now). This 60% cocoa solids plain choccy bar is 'ok'. I stil prefer Bendicks varieties. Still, a trip down the 'Bournville Boulevard' is definitely getting posher these days."

...In other theoretically-upmarket chocolates, "be" raised the alarm that Mars Planets will comprise three chocolate balls - crispy, chewy caramel and soft nougat - all covered in Mars chocolate (due end of March, 41p for 37g), while 1 was all you needed to take home a microwaveable Gu Hot Chocolate Fondu in my local Sainsbury's yesterday - a product I wasn't particularly inspired by, despite extensive Pancake Day experiments with banana slices, Mini Cheddars and those new Blackberry and Apple Jaffa Cakes.

Comment: I have tried the Nestle heaven, I had the praline variation, they are very nice. Made from swiss chocolate. You don't get much for your money though, they are 100g but the same price as green and blacks, which at least is organic!

Comment: Grace, that "Swiss chocolate" has vegetable fat in it! Naughty, naughty, Nestle.

Comment: Actually I think the veg fat is in the filling... These bars are produced at the Cailler of Switzerland factory in Broc so it's the real-deal! I know they push their luck sometimes but credit where it's due!

Comment: This stuff is vile, it tastes cheap and synthetic. We gave the remainder of the bar to our rats and even they turned their noses up at it (trust me, that says a great deal). Yuk.
