Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Ben and Jerry's Bohemian Raspberry Confirmed sighting: Ben and Jerry's Bohemian Raspberry
Posted: 21:06 Thu 08-Mar-2007. Location: Morrisons, Southampton. Nutritional unusualness: Contains more blackberry than raspberry.
"choccieman" reports: Well this was a bit of a surprise, no mention that I could see on the B+J web site so another flavour comes out of the blue. This Queen-inspired flavour (10p per tub going to the Mercury Phoenix Trust) contains some very nice fudge brownie pieces and some so-so raspberry swirls (anyone have an idea of how this is connected to Queen in any way?). Overall it's up to B+J's high standards but not quite magnificooooo (sorry, couldn't help myself). The fault lies with them yet again using their vanilla ice cream as the base, yes it's good as vanilla goes but it's beginning to feel like all they make is vanilla or chocolate with various different bits chucked in. How about rum and raisin?

..."choccieman" concedes this is "probably" just another version of last year's disappointing Glastonberry, perhaps with "improved" brownie pieces - though, as Queen themselves pondered: Is this the real life, or is it just fantasy? Elsewhere, first-time spotter "Joan" sounds overjoyed to have found these Cornetto Chocolate (Family Size - Pack of 6) for 1.99 in Sheffield ("Really nice, I'm surprised they didn't come out sooner and are a great addition to the range") - now joined by a near-terrifying array of new Walls products, including Mint Feast, Milk Time and the distinctly continental-sounding Cornetto Choco Disc.

Comment: Bohemian Raspberry sounds identical to Glastonberry - just a renaming perhaps? However, I still haven't managed to get my hands on Glastonberry and it sounds yum, so I will try to get a tub of one of these. Also want to say 'Yay! Mint feast is back!' I am such a big Feast fan (although it's a killer when you get it on your clothes!) so I must nab one of these... Can't wait for the icecream vans to start on their rounds...

Comment: You can't see any Queen connection in fudge brownies? Come ON.

Comment: I have to agree about the boring vanilla or chocolate base problem - although Caramel Chew-Chew has a yummy caramel base. SnackSpotters may like to know that B&J icecreams using fairtrade vanilla pods have 20 percent off in Sainsbury's during Fair Trade Fortnight (ends v soon), which is great news for Vanilla Toffee Crunch lovers like me.

Comment: this flavour is typically boring to me,i hate vanilla icecream and theres not enough swirls or chunks to keep it interestings. The new apple pie or fossil fuel is a much better choice.

Comment: Just bought it from ASDA in York (£2! Bargain!) Yet to try it as I am reluctant to eat any ice-cream with fruit in it (why spoil the chocolaty goodness?) But hopefully it'll all be good, but I am waiting for a special occasion to eat it! Yum!

Comment: NB. The Ben & Jerry's UK website has now been updated and features the new 'Bohemian Raspberry' flavour. Notice that the Glastonberry flavour has also disappeared, confirming my suspicion that this is probably not a new product but a rebranding trick. Ohh!

Comment: Ben and Jerry's made a disastrous rum and raisin flavour when they first started out back in the 70's which is probably why they havn't made it globally available!
