Click pic to view comments - Semi-international sighting: Masterfoods Milky Way Minute Semi-international sighting: Masterfoods Milky Way Minute
Posted: 20:06 Thu 22-Mar-2007. Price: 9p each or 12 for 1. Location: Farm Foods, Glasgow. Nutritional unusualness: Claims to contain fibre, calcium and vitamins - as well as 181 kcal per bar.
"jb" reports: I found this while stocking up on other cheap sugary stuff in FF. The wrapper boasts that it comes "with milk cream, apple and cinnamon" and judging by the extreme lack of English on the wrapper and the Cyrillic letters I am guessing this is an Eastern European delicacy. It is basically a hard biscuit base with a layer of apple puree and yoghurt like covering. They are most edible. And cheap.

...Close examination implies this is actually the handiwork of Masterfoods Polska, though no clue whether they'd like the "Milky Way Minute" to become a figure of speech/ measurement of time, New York Minute-style. Anyway, in other international intrigue: I wasn't particularly bowled over by the Bonne Maman biscuits that both Waitrose and Sainsbury have been flaunting over the past few months (typically from 99p/ box of 8), but the real revelation has turned out to be this Morelowe version of Poland's Delicje Szampanskie Jaffa Cake-alikes (99p, Golders Green) - if McVitie's don't do their own dark chocolate and apricot Jaffa Cake soon, I really don't know what they're thinking...

Comment: I've had the blue version and it was fantastic, like a hard digestive with set yoghurt.

Comment: Are they very very small? That would seem to be implied by the name.

Comment: No, Victoria. They're actually quite a decent size. About 12-15cm if I remember rightly. They are pretty thin though but the size is just right.

Comment: They look like the Milky Way Crispy Rolls which are still sold.

Comment: i thought these were hilarious. they have no milky way, and are not the cereal bar you might think from the packaging. a finest array of sugars, topped with extra brown sugar. mm, mm.
