Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Mexican Limes with a Hint of Chilli Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Mexican Limes with a Hint of Chilli
Posted: 20:06 Tue 24-Apr-2007. Price: 1.69/ 150g bag. Location: Corner shop, Finchley Road tube. Nutritional unusualness: 11g fat, 1g sugar, 0.4% dried Mexican limes per 40g serving.
Snackspot reports: They come in a fantastically eye-catching vivid green bag but, like many of the company's fruitier experiments, hardly taste of lime at all - at least compared to Phileas Fogg's poppy-seed packed Spikin' Lime Tortillas, or even the "Gently Infused" Lime and Thai Spices Sensations. That said, this still makes them more interesting than Kettle's other current Soulmate Cheeses effort - if you want a real flavour adventure, I'd start with Pret A Manger's pioneering Crispy Seaweed And Miso Crisps, as previously recommended here.

...In other crispy curiosity: "John" may have been inspired by the news that "Golden Wonder [...] has been relaunched" to inquire "Golden Wonder Rock 'N' Rollers - does anyone remember these popular crisps?", while "Hannah B" reveals: "My favourite crisps of all time are the Pickled Onion Discos. I might have to change this soon though because I'm fairly sure I've not seen a packet for the best part of five years. I was just wondering if anybody knew where I could find them or if they had in fact died a miserable death... cheers for your help."

Comment: I've been munching these for a few weeks now, whenever I can find them that is.

They are really very nice, up there with the balsamic vinegar Kettles. But they seem very hard to come by, I've only found them in pubs and small mini mart / newsagents.

Comment: I like the flavour too. I can find them in my local Home Bargains in sunny Inverness.

Comment: Margiotta at the bottom of Dundas Street in Edinburgh has had these in the small and large bags for a while. I do like the flavour, as its not as boring as the Walkers Select equivalent (if its still available). Popped into Margiotta today and found a new (to me anyway) flavour of Kettle Chips, they were Soulmate Cheese with Onion. The crisps were pretty colourless, but the flavour was one of the best Cheese and Onion ones I've tried in a while.

Comment: I've bought these a couple of times from Tescos recently. It's a more subtle flavour than the bright lime green packets suggests, but that's not a bad thing. The crisps are quite greasy but taste really nice with just the right amount of chilli and lime on each crisp. The new Soulmates Cheeses With Onion flavour Kettle Chips taste fantastic by the way. For anyone who likes a cheesy crisp check these out.

Comment: Pickled Onion Discos have been replaced by Beef, sadly. It happened several months ago, I'd say you had zero chance of finding any now.

Comment: Are they as nice as lime doritos?

Comment: The Lime Doritos are just 'Hint of Lime' if I recall correctly - meant for dipping of course. They don't taste anywhere near as good as the delicious Mexican Lime & Chilli Kettle Chips this thread is about.

And the Pickled Onion Discos disappeared a bit longer than 'several months ago'. It was just about 2 years ago now that they were replaced by Beef flavour.

Comment: I bought my last-ever bag of Kettle chips the other week, which happened to be this flavour

Under strict boycott now as with Pringles

Comment: I can't believe I just read that, Marquez! Pringles better quality than Kettles? Nice one!

Comment: No, i was saying they're both ghastly and poor quality, hence both under boycott

Comment: Phew - I thought sanity had deserted the world!

Anyone tried the Waitrose own brand flavours? They are my top crunch at the moment, especially Lincolnshire sausage & mustard.

Comment: I agree with the boycott. These are ghastly, although it took me a couple of bags to make sure.
