Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Wrigley's Extras New Fruity Flavour/ Fruit-tella Choc Filled Confirmed sighting: Wrigley's Extras New Fruity Flavour/ Fruit-tella Choc Filled
Posted: 18:13 Tue 12-Jun-2007. Price: 1.41 for 46 pieces in medicine-style bottle. Location: GT News, Sheffeld. Sub-flavours: Watermelon; Strawberry. Nutritional unusualness: 69g polyols per 100g.
"charl" reports: [INT, DAY: MODERATELY SUCCESSFUL NHS DOCTOR'S SURGERY. PATIENT is entering the room.]
DOCTOR: Good morning.
PATIENT: Hi.
DOCTOR: What can I do for you today?
PATIENT: I am so over mint!
[DOCTOR stands as loud rock music starts. He swings his stethoscope suggestively then waves his hands holding New Fruity Flavour Extra prescription-style bottles close to camera, whilst chewing rhythmically.]
DOCTOR: It doesn't keep its flavour very well, does it?
PATIENT: There is no hope for us.

...Damn, I was hoping these might wean me off the even-more-expensive (yet almost-alarmingly minty) Mentos Pure Fresh Chewing Gum, which cost 1.85 and rattle like a pot of cyber-futuristic worming tablets. Anyway, "charl" has also been chewing on Fruit-tella Choc Filled (35p, Woolworth's, Sheffield), noting: These "caramel-chocolate" chews are naked and huddled together like fruit pastilles in the tube. The first hope was that they might be a kind of portable Toffifee, but although the caramel is soft, the "chocolate" centre is a disappointing eurochoc flavour. Fruit-tella fruit chews are much better than most of their peers. These are the secret cousin to chocolate eclairs that no-one enquires about at family weddings.

Comment: There's also a new flavour of trident splash gum - raspberry & peach. Purple packet - it's not half bad.

Do they not sell smaller packs of the stawberry extra? I just want to try it - I don't want 46 pieces of the bloody stuff.

Comment: they didn't have smaller packets when i saw the large ones, but maybe they will come later, hopefully. i have more of the stuff than i will ever chew.

Comment: they've already done coffee and caramel sugar free sweets, so i think if they were going to do the name switch (sweettella?) the time has passed...

Comment: These chocolate Fruitellas taste really nice - just like those Cadbury's chocolate eclairs you can get. They're quite nice to chew on - but why oh why are they sold under the Fruitella brand when there's no fruit ?? Whatever next - fruit flavoured Smarties or something ??

Comment: There have always been orange Smarties! When do we get to see the end to that Holby script Charl??

Comment: Beware of any sugar free Fruitella's -- I only ate half a packet of the coffee ones and they gave me serious stomach cramps and diarrhea. It was like water. :'(

Won't be touching any of their sugar free stuff again.

(And it's not my stomach -- I can happily chew through 2 tubs of Extra with no effect.)

Comment: Fruitella Chocolate Chews are just Meller chocolate chews rebranded!!

Comment: They are quite nice, they sort of taste like something you would buy in a slightly less developed country than our own, but much munchable all the same.

The name however is just wrong. Where is the fruit?! It's like cadbury bringing out their own fruit chews and calling them 'chocolate eclairs - fruity' despite them not being chocolate eclairs at all. Surely they could have come up with something better - Choctella or something?

Comment: Just munching on my first ever choc-filled 'fruitella' and so dissapointed. Yep toffee is chewy but choc centre is very average - oh and they all stick together.
