Posted: 20:10 Tue 17-Jul-2007. Price: 2.38/ box of 6. Location: Sainsbury, Finchley Road. Sub-flavours: Nutty Chocolate, Lively Lemon, Sassy Strawberry. Nutritional unusualness: Second ingredient is glucose syrup, but still only 10g sugars per (32g?) bar.
Snackspot reports: To be fair, Nutty Chocolate isn't bad, and is a bit like eating a museli Weetabix spread with a thin stripe of Nutella. By comparison, however, Sassy Strawberry was such a cheap-jam-flavoured disappointment that I couldn't bring myself to spend another 2.38 on Lively Lemon (and is it just me, or does anyone else think these variety names might be aimed at a younger female audience?) Alternatively, it's just "Apricot" or "Strawberry" if you splash out an even-more-preposterous 2.29 for 4 Masterfoods Frutasias (featuring 1 full portion of fruit, plus hydrogenated vegetable oil and 18.4g sugar per 34g bar) - at those prices, I may as well stick with The Fabulous Bakin' Boys Soft Bake Choc Chip Biscotti (61p each, Tesco).

...In other chocolatey crunches: Kellogg's have launched Special K Mini Breaks (from 49p, in chocolate or "original"); "Just tried this chocolate toffee popcorn, it's amazing, and to top it all it organic, and it ain't drenched in topping," writes "Marina S", claiming she bought it in "Partridges", wherever that is; and despite the lack of substantiating evidence (so far), can any of us afford to ignore "scott's" intriguingly specific prediction that Nestle Vice Versas will once again be "avalible most shops from 19 july"?

Comment: I tried the Snack a Jacks chocolate toffee popcorn yesterday (free with any purchase from superdrug til end of today) and wasn't impressed just as I wasn't with the toffee one. Just glues your teeth together! The other variant was salt and vinegar - much better I suspect, like those Walkers Sandog(?) savoury cheese popcorn you used to be able to get now that was yum!!
