Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Roast Chicken with Rosemary and Thyme Confirmed sighting: Kettle Chips Roast Chicken with Rosemary and Thyme
Posted: 23:03 Thu 09-Aug-2007. Price: 1.39/ 150g, though currently 2 for 2 in Tesco. Location: Tesco, Plymouth. Nutritional unusualness: 38.2g of fat / 700 calories per 150g bag .
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: A rare venture into the world of meat-flavoured crisps has just escaped from the Kettle Chips factory in Norwich - in distinctive purple bags, with a "New - Try Me!" flash across the top and bottom corners. Made with 3.5% dried roast chicken stock, the chicken flavour is unusually strong and, to be honest, it totally overpowers what little input the Rosemary and Thyme have in the flavour combination. This seems to be part of a re-launching of the Kettle Chips brand as also out now as new flavours are Honey Barbecue (orange bags), Sweet Chilli (red bags), and Sour Cream and Chive (green). For fans of chicken crisps I would still marginally recommend the Walkers Sensations Oven Roasted Chicken, Lemon and Thyme flavour though - just for the citrusy hint of lemon they have.

...In other summertime savouries: I had to go all the way to Scotland to locate Salty Dog's Kettle-competitors Darling Spuds (about 70p/ 40g from an Edinburgh Deli, in Fire Roasted Jalapeno Peppers or West Country Cheddar, Leek and Pink Peppercorns), while "Nick T" located (but doesn't seem to have purchased) the aformentioned Honey Barbecue Kettle Chips (also 2 for 2, Tesco, Rugby), apologising: (Sorry, couldn't take picture in store!) An interesting addition, but will it fill the mighty boots of the sadly missed Cheddar with Adnams Broadside? Perhaps not, "Nick", but perhaps they're the secret weapon used to tame and deploy the fierce honey badgers which apparently stalk [Iraqi] streets at night, attacking livestock and even humans?

Comment: Not seen the Chicken ones, but thumbs up for the rest of the range, especially Sweet Chilli!

Comment: Rather like these myself, nice Chicken taste without the usual overpowering saltyness this flavour usually suffers from. Must admit I did not notice the Rosemary though.

Comment: As well as the 4 new permanent flavours of Kettle Chips mentioned above, I've had a fifth new flavour recently. This one has been around at least twice before though - it's our old friend Mature Cheddar & Burgundy this time in purple bags with a yellow stripe. The flash across the top corner of the bags says 'Just for Winter'. I bought them in Tescos who were still doing the 2 for £2 promotion.

And as for the Darling Spuds crisps, in addition to the two flavours Snackspot mentions I've also recently had the two other flavours currently available, Crushed Natural Sea Salt and Sea Salt & Modena Balsamic Vinegar flavours - bought from a Plymouth Deli. They were not cheap though at 70p per 40g bag [or 3 for £2] and nothing special in ny opinion.
