Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Walkers Sensations Sweet Chilli And Coriander Corn Chips flavour snacks with poppy seeds Confirmed sighting: Walkers Sensations Sweet Chilli And Coriander Corn Chips flavour snacks with poppy seeds
Posted: 23:09 Tue 04-Sep-2007. Price: 45-57p. Location: Newsagent in Ealing; Vending machine, John Lewis head office. Sub-flavours: Cream Cheese And Cracked Black Pepper. Nutritional unusualness: "60% less saturated fat than in 2006" - but this is a new product?
I definitely saw a version of these around earlier in the year, but then received two new sightings in the last week, starting with "robertster's" report: "Noted before by MHS, I found these quite nice, in a 'doesn't taste of anything' sort of way. Though my two companions disliked them, one wouldn't even finish a chip. The taste of coriander is surprisingly strong, and starts to come through about two-thirds through the pack." But the pic comes from the even more enthusiastic "Zappomatic", who claims: "These are very light and crispy, not your typical cardboard Dorito. Poppy seeds add a nice texture and flavour, and if you keep them in your mouth for a few seconds you can really taste the coriander leaf oil. Looking at the ingredients all the flavourings are natural, non-powdery and not a hint of MSG."

...In other Walkers weirdness: I think I prefer the Sweet Chilli Premium Cashews to Nobby's Nuts Indian Spice (and the packaging's generally better overall), but I don't think either flavour is as good as the Spicy Cashews they did at Christmas; while The Grocer magazine says they've already removed the rennet from their "made from whole oats, wheat and corn" wholegrain Sunbites (due Sep 23rd, from 41p/ bag, in Original, Sour Cream and Cracked Pepper, or Oven Roasted Onion and Rosemary), no doubt to avoid Mars bar-style vegetarian outrage.

Comment: But it's MHS who has 'caught wind of' them in the initial sighting isn't it? Also, it was me who said that you could taste the coriander two thirds of the way through. I smell a BBC and the Queen style editing scandal....

I agree that they seem to have been around for ages though, but the 'NEW' convinced me to buy.

Comment: doh yeah well spotted R, that'll teach me to try and combine two same-titled sightings after getting home from the pub. Fixed now but, following this travesty, can Snackspot ever fully regain your trust again..?

Comment: For the record, I didn't just 'catch wind' of the two flavours of Corn Chip sensations back in July 06 in Tesco's. I actually bought and tasted them both at the time and found them quite pleasant. They still are a very nice alternative for anyone wanting a crispy snack but wanting a change from potatoes. The corn chips were only available in the bigger size bags back in 2006 though - hence the 'new' on the bag pictured above.

Comment: Does anyone know where to find 'Sensations Lamb and Mint' I remember seeing them in 2006...

Comment: There's a new limited edition third flavour of the Walkers Sensations Corn Chips out now. It's Jalapeno & Sour Cream flavour. I bought some in Morrisons earlier today - in the bigger 175g bags.

I was on the look-out for any special Christmas flavours from Walkers this year, but couldn't find any. By October last year I'd had all the Christmas flavours of Sensations. Maybe they're delayed this year, or Walkers are simply not bothering. I know they didn't bother with their Turkey & Paxo flavour in the ordinary crisp range last year.

Comment: Well I spoke too soon as just one day later I've been in Tescos and bought Honey Roasted Ham & Apple Chutney flavour Walkers Sensations from the standard potato crisp range. Like the new flavour of Corn Chips, they are branded as a limited edition and have the Christmas wrapping design on the bags similar to all the Sensations range had last Christmas.

Comment: Just had another Limited Edition flavour of Walkers Sensations. It was Goat's Cheese & Herbs this time - again with the Christmas wrapping design on the bags. In a bizarre twist all bags of Sensations are £1.49 each currently in Asda but on offer at any two for £1 - making it 49p cheaper to buy 2 bags than to just buy one. Asda also have added a festive Turkey & Onion Gravy flavour to their own-brand Extra Special crisp range right now too.

Comment: As i've mentioned in another thread, Sainsbury's have produced limited edition regular 25g bags of crisps in Pigs in Blankets flavour this Christmas. They're sold in 6 bag multipacks, but don't taste too nice sadly. Also from Sainsbury's for this Christmas are two flavours of their 150g Taste The Difference range of upmarket crisps, in fancy Christmas style packaging. The two flavours are Blue Stilton, and Sausage with Caramelised Onion & Ginger Chutney. So there's a few more additions to the growing range of festive crisp flavours we've got to savour this Christmas.

Comment: Any idea if these contain any form of Olestra? Had some unpleasant effects after eating a large bag of these.

Comment: I had some of these yesterday, very nice. Two packs of any non-crisp sensations for £2 at Morrisons.

I was saving the ones that initially caught my eye (Jalepino and Sour Cream) but turns out they are 10x nicer and I find the Sour Cream ones to be tasteless and rather dull.

Would probably be fine with something else, such as a dip or the wine suggested on the packet, but I would only suggest the Sweet Chilli are edible on their own

Comment: I tried the Ham and Apple Chutney ones - a bit close to their best by date but still crispy. Wasn't that thrilled by them and can still taste them hours and several meals later. Won't bother again.
