Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Walkers Crisps Turkey and Stuffing flavour Confirmed sighting: Walkers Crisps Turkey and Stuffing flavour
Posted: 23:08 Thu 18-Oct-2007. Price: 35p. Location: Corner shop, Plymouth. Nutritional unusualness: 11.4g of fat (16% of your guideline daily amount), 181 calories (9% of your GDA) per 34.5g bag.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: Walkers are back with their limited edition Turkey and Stuffing flavour crisps this festive season, after a break last year when the only festive flavours they produced were in the upmarket Sensations range. Prior to that for several Christmases there had been a branding link-up with Paxo Stuffing for this flavour of crisps - similar to the way the traditional old Tomato Sauce flavour became sponsored as Heinz Tomato Ketchup flavour. Walkers even did Turkey and Bacon flavour a couple of Christmases ago in bright purple and red bags.

Anyway, these new crisps don't taste any different this year, even though the flavouring is back as plain old non-Paxo stuffing, but the bags are a dull brown and black colour with just a few barely-noticable snowflakes across the top to remind you it's supposed to be Christmas. There's still no sign of my dream festive crisp flavour though - that's Brussels Sprouts flavour in case anyone from Walkers reads this - or Flamingo flavoured Pringles for that matter (after all, Flamingoes are just big pink turkeys, aren't they?)

...A characteristically comprehensive catch-up on Christmas crisp history from "MHS" here - I haven't personally seen any of these Halloween-themed Pringles yet (as if the prospect of customers' own "Jingles for Pringles" wasn't terrifying enough), but apparently this year's special seasonal Hula Hoops are going to be sausage-y Pigs in Blankets flavour and shaped like Christmas stars.

Comment: I had a packet of these on Monday - surprisingly tasty, and a good amount in the bag. Don't like to buy Walkers, but it wont hurt to encourage them to make curious limited editions, rather than their usual predictable fare.

I seem to remember the Turkey and Paxo crisps of past years having a more jolly purple bag.

Of course, chicken and stuffing Seabrooks are always going to have the advantage over the Walkers, even if somewhat too salty.

Comment: I had some of the Pigs in Blankets flavoured Hula Hoops the other day. You get 4 bags in a 'Stars And Hoops' multipack, along with 3 bags of Original flavour. Both flavours contain a mixture of standard hoops and some surpisingly small but well formed star shaped hoops in each bag. It's been two years now since I predicted a Pigs in Blankets flavour [it's just sausage and bacon for the uninitiated] in the Walkers Turkey & Bacon spot mentioned above, so I'm pleased to see my wish come true. Now how long before Brussels Sprouts flavour becomes a reality ????

Comment: I've seen these in Morrisons today in a multipack with Cheese and Pickle and something I wasn't paying attention to as I now can't remember it.

It's the Christmas multipack anyway so I expect whatever it is to be festive... well as much as Cheese and Pickle anyway.

Comment: Alongside the Turkey & Stuffing and Cheese & Pickle flavours, the third flavour in the Walkers Christmas 6 bag multipack is our old friend Ham & Mustard back for another outing. You get two of each flavour. Not sure how Christmassy Walkers think Ham or Cheese flavours are, but they've got little snowflakes on the packets just like the Turkey flavour.

As for Pigs in Blankets, you wait years for that flavour to crop up in a crisp, then two come along at once. Sainsbury's have a limited edition 6 bag multipack of Pigs in Blankets flavour crisps in the shops now. They taste terrible sadly - really plasticky and false - but credit to them for trying something different. At least you've got a choice now of having your Pigs in Blankets as Hula Hoops or regular crisps.

Comment: I had these last week at my school's refectory. They weren't that great to be honest. They were a bit salty and tasted EXACTLY like roast chicken flavoured crisps. GIMMICK!

Comment: I had some of the Golden Wonder Turkey & Stuffing crisps yesterday. They're in nice bright gold and green bags, and have a lovely strong Chickeny / Turkey flavour as you'd expect from a Golden Wonder product. They were maybe a little on the salty side, but that's possibly a result of there being too many reduced salt snacks on the market nowadays desensitising your tongue.
