Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Cranberry and Orange Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Jaffa Cakes Cranberry and Orange
Posted: 20:25 Thu 01-Nov-2007. Price: 78p. Location: Asda Hamilton, Scotland. Nutritional unusualness: 1% fat.
"More smashing orangey bits and cranberry too. Think of all those old people who can now control their cystitis with a Jaffa cake! What next? Mulled wine variety at Christmas?", demands "zeddy", continuing his bid to become chocolate-coatings' very own Jeremy Clarkson with these McVitie's Moments Ultimate Chocolate Luxury Layer Squares (1.69/4, Sainsbury, Hamilton, 198kcal per square), described as: "'Contrasting layers of soft white and dark chocolate brownie with a rich chocolate flavoured filling, topped with smooth Belgian milk chocolate and finished with Belgian white chocolate curls.' I think this product has chocolate in it. One for the ladies at a certain time of the month, perhaps. (You know, when they want chocolate.)"

...Moving swiftly on, McVitie's are presumably targeting the lucrative lunchbox market with their jam-centred Lunchers (in blackcurrant, lemon, or strawberry, 1.15/5), but "zeddy" seems to prefer these Jezyki Classic he found for 99p in Tesco, Silverburn, Glasgow, exclaiming: "Good grief these are good! Polish biccies that are essentially 'biscuits with caramel, hazelnuts, raisins and rice crisps in milk chocolate'. Nice and crispy and chewy, the raisins are a great bonus and who doesn't like their nuts? Why are the Polish coming over to the UK looking for work when they could be sitting at home in Poland in front of the TV eating packets of these?"

Comment: these are interesting, they've actually tried to retain the sharpness of cranberry.

Comment: I didn't notice any difference between these and ordinary Jaffa Cakes, perhaps I'm losing my sense of taste due to old age.

Comment: I totally agree with gassbag - these taste the same as normal Jaffa Cakes. I may go a little further and say that they taste like the cheapo 'Smart Price' Jaffa Cakes that they sell in ASDA for something like 15 pence. Why McVities think that the Jaffa Cake needs to be constantly changed is beyond me. Why don't they leave the classics well alone?

Comment: A very interesting concept. A close friend of mine works for McVitie's, and he's informed me that a Grapefruit and Orange flavour are on the cards. Stay tuned guys.

Comment: Zeddy - modify your comments about menstruation, please...the time of the month when women want MORE chocolate than the vast amount of chocolate they usually want.
